I'm sure getting some AIDS would definitely cause you to lose weight, but I'm not as sure about the AYDS. Dude. Too classic.

I remember Adam Carolla talking about it one night last year on Loveline (before he left the show), how a perfectly good and marketable name was ruined by the development of the disease, and if I remember correctly, he mentioned this commercial.

My mother used to buy them for my sister...she'd eat half the box in one sitting..all they were, I swear, were caramels...ps. She never lost weight from them.

Yup, I remember them. I also remember when AIDS started hitting the news, the company that makes Ayds said they see no reason to change the name.

Back in the 70's, there were also diet candies named "Byrd Flu" and "Mad Cow Dysease".

You were supposed to drink a cup of warm liquid, water or tea, when you ate the 'candy'. I guess the water made it expand and make you feel full. Worked for me.
