Do your teams ever win anything big?
I'm a Colts, Indiana Hoosiers, Notre Dame, and Detroit Tigers fan.
Since I was a kid and following sports, only Indiana has won a Championship. And that was back in 1987. I think maybe the Tigers have won the World Series but I didn't start following them until recently. Before that I was a Cubs fan. Hahaha. Yeah. Exactly. Anyhow, I'm watching Notre Dame and I'm wondering why I follow these teams. Each one has gotten decently close but has choked after a lot of hype. Sigh. ND is getting killed. I should probably stay up and watch but ![]() edit: I like the Red Wings and watched them win but I can't really claim that since the won right after I moved up to Michigan and started watching them.

I've been a 'Boys fan since '83, so yeah...I've seen them win a few. Also saw them go 1-15 in '89.
Went to school at VaTech initially. They've had some success recently, but have never won the big one (shut up Guiseppe). ![]() Other than that, I'm kind of a homer. Follow the Caps, Wiz, Orioles, and now Nationals. None of those teams have done much at all recently.

Boston College Eagles
Michigan Wolverines New Jersey Devils New York Mets Orlando Magic Los Angeles Clippers Washington Redskins San Diego Chargers My teams have had their share of ups and downs. Since I moved to LA I have adopted the Clippers and Chargers as my "home" teams and cheer for them when they aren't playing the Magic or Redskins respectively. Art Monk and Lil' Penny are awesome. That is all. |

Don't let WVU rain on your parade. They haven't won a MNC either and don't have near the amount of recent conference titles that VT does.

Well, we had the Bulls in the '90s, and they've been looking a lot better of late this year. And we had the '85 Bears. I'm not a big White Sox fan, but they did ok a couple of years ago.
THIS IS THE YEAR FOR THE CUBS!

At least we won our bowl game this year....and have a chance to finish in the top 10 2 years in a row. ![]() BTW - we have been BE champs 3 of the last 4 years. This year was the only year in the last 4 that we weren't BE champs. Uh - in the last 5 years vt has only been conf champ once. So, what was that about recent conf championships? |

Some of my teams have won the big one a few times while I have been their fan. I have been a Pittsburgh fan from day 1....I guess cuz my father was a huge burgh fan and I was born there. So, I have seen the Pirates, the Penguins, and the Steelers win the big one. I have also felt the agony of defeat when my teams have lost the big one (e.g. I was at 3 Rivers when they lost the AFC championship to SD, the Pirates losing to the Braves in the NL championship, and, until recently, WVU has had a rough time winning bowl games). I was also a huge Larry Bird fan when I was growing up so I got to see him win quite a few. The Tigers are my AL team and I got to watch them win the WS in '84. |

the only teams i've ever followed with any loyalty at some point in my life have been the Sacramento Kings, the LA Dodgers, the SF 49ers, and UCLA (basketball mostly). the only one of them i haven't seen win it all is my beloved kings... le sigh...

My Niners won the SB in 1995 and it was the only time I saw them winning it all.
My Clippers have not won anything yet and they look horrible this year. UNC just won the Final Four 2 years ago. |

I grew up in Colorado so-
University of Colorado I have seen go 1-10 and also win a National Championship in football. Denver Broncos- three Superbowls with John Elway. Not the same since. Now in San Diego. Chargers. Their best season ever is now. Padres- OK- a fair weather fan on them. Never got into basketball or hockey much.

SF 49ers- 1980's Domination
Oakland A's- It's been a long time, but they were close this year. Golden State Warriors- Yeah, that's a lost cause. San Jose Sharks- Close but no cigar, they always look good, but never in the playoffs when it counts.

its tough being a fan of San Diego sports teams, especially to see the Chargers blunder their way into the Super Bowl and then have Neon Dieon mock you (gawd, I hate that guy), then shortly after have the Padres get absolutely rawked by the Yankees in the World Series. not to mention countless losing seasons for both teams in the meantime....
then during my years at school, UCLA football was just terrible, and men's bball .... was disappointing, to say the least. but on the other hand, you've got the Lakers racking up Championships like it was going out of style ![]() so to answer the topics question, during my life time, besides the Lakers, no I have not seen any of my teams win anything big. (UCLA doesnt count b/c I wasnt in school yet, so I was oblivious to college sports)

Yep, cuz VPI was the juggernaut of the BE fb conf. VPI won the conf once and finished second once in the last 5 years they were in the BE. Personally, I am glad you guys are out of our conference so we don't have to worry about you dominating the basketball side of the BE. ![]() |

Auburn Tigers went 13-0 my g/f's senior year.
Cards won this year. Rams won a few years ago, but I since then stopped caring for them. Blues have never won.

Although I wish it were the case, it isn't just attributed to VT leaving. Miami leaving also played a big part in WVU's rise to prominence. It's a shame VT collapsed in the second half of the bowl game this year because that would have made it three top 10 finishes in a row. Oh well. 10-3 isn't bad in a rebuilding year. |

Man, you must have eaten too much sushi with Tiki at TenPenh the other night. ![]() VaTech won the initial ACC Championship football game, and made it to the second one before losing to FSU. Oh yeah, we also beat Duke last year in bball...and lost to them again only on a Hail Mary buzzer beater. Mens bball is on the way up! Keep racking up wins against inferior opposition. Hey, it keeps the mattress dealers in business, right? Burn, baby, burn! ![]() Last edited by MikeD : 01-04-2007 at 12:29 PM. |

I went to Auburn (not very well, however
) during Bo's reign - he lived two houses from my wife and I. He was a bad-ass in college. I grew up in Austin and watched the whole UT domination and then they took it again last year. So, yeah, college-wise it's been pretty easy. But, I am a Mets fan so don't ask about the pro years. ![]()

Sabres.
This is their year. (Though last year was their year also, but they got knocked out at by Carolina in the Conference Finals). (BTW: Carolina?!? wtf... a Southern team playing hockey? that's just a bastardization of the sport...) I've been following Sabres since I moved to Buffalo area 6 yeara ago and they're due for a cup. This year will be theirs though. I can FEEL it. And BTW, F--- the Bills (and football in general, IMHO a stupid, slow, and unintersting sport).

Dolphins Knicks Islanders no real college team and, will root for the steelers after having gone to college there... (i can't get myself to like the ravens, no matter how hard i try - been living in bmore for over 5 years now.) will root for the pirates and O's to do well, but not my teams. so, my life has been full of heartbreak. mets, i saw in 86...and i vaguely remember. that was my only taste... Phins have had gone into the playoffs, but then ... embarrasments Knicks.... i hate jordan. Islanders... oh, what has come of you once glorious franchise? |

For the record, Tiki had the ribeye. You were talking about VPI dominating the BE not the weak-arse ACC. ![]() Just cuz you beat an overrated Duke team doesn't mean you are a great or even good b-ball team. Heck, did you guys get an NIT bid last year? I will admit that you guys are getting better in b-ball for 2 reasons: 1) you couldn't get much worse (VPI lifetime BE b-ball record - 17-47 - ouch) and 2) you are playing in the ACC. All kidding aside - you guys are getting better.Inferior fb opposition? I think this year the ACC has no room to talk. Who won your conf? Uh - WF? ![]() |
