The $2.99 Wendys Commercial

The one where the guy is eating a burger the size of a dime and mini-fries and a one ounce or less drink.

I roar every time I see it.

It is pretty funny... kind of a throwback of "where's the beef."

that is a funny ad. I always laugh at the Jack in the Box food hall of fame one, especially the part where they reveal his bust hahaha

Boo Wendy's for raising their prices on their value menu. I guess I can't blame them because it's a pretty good value menu, but I can still be upset because I'm poor

It's OK, but nothing great. There are plenty out there that are better.

Me? I'm partial to the Peyton Manning spots; especially like the SportsCenter one with the Manning family touring the ESPN facilities.

Peyton's commercials (with the exception of the moustache one) are usually pretty good. I like the one you mentioned along with the one where has the supermarket kid sign his bread for Eli, and when he gets the apron tossed up to him from the restaurant worker.

I have to agree that Manning ones are always good and the one with the whole Manning family is the best. Most of the ESPN commercials are great.

I also like the Axe commercials too....only b/c of the women.

Ummm... I don't really know what you are "booing" about.

Wendy's here still has the 99 cents value menu, however now you can get a $2.99 "combo meal" as well, which is cheaper than most of the competitors around here and their $3.99 combo meals.

Do the Wendy's in your area no longer have the 99 cent value menu?

different wendys seem to have slightly different value meals. most in the baltimore area have chilli chips and cheese, but can't find it in other areas. some have varying sizes of drinks and fries that are 99 cents. usually find the better deals in the boondocks on those.

Yes, they definitely did raise the price (in san diego). They do not call it the 99 cent value menu anymore because nothing is 99 cents. Don't ask me how I know, but here is the current value menu as I know it:

Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger - 1.19
Crispy Chicken Sandwich - 1.19
Crispy Chicken Nuggets - 1.19
Caesar Side Salad - 1.69
Small Fries - 1.69
Small Drink - 1.69
Cheeseburger Delux - 1.19
Chili - 1.19
Baked Potato - 1.19

As you can see, none of these are .99. They used to all be that much but it seems like they raised the prices.

Honestly, some of these are still definitely worth it, but hey~ I'm cheap.

I wonder if this could have anything to do with it? (source)
Code:
effective new minimum old minimum date wage wage 1/1/2008 $8.00 $7.50 1/1/2007 $7.50 $6.75 1/1/2002 $6.75 $6.25

I doubt it. They raised the prices months ago before the minimum wage plan passed

Accountant: Sir, once the new minimum wage goes into effect, we'll be losing money on every value menu item.

Executive: How much will we be losing?

Accountant: I calculate on average it will be 17 cents per item.

Executive: So what do you propose?

Accountant: Well, we could raise the prices to cover the increased minimum wages.

Executive: Sounds like a good idea.

Accountant: Then should we tell our outlets to plan a price increase for the first of the year?

Executive: Hell no! Raise the prices NOW!

Nah. It could never happen like that....

It's not like the minimum wage plan was a done deal months ago. Besides, why would they only raise the prices in certain regions? The minimum wage plan is a national plan and would affect all wendy's branches nationwide. A more likely scenario would be franchisee decisions based on proforma profitability based on regional demographics.

I mean, I don't know for sure. All I know for sure is that I liked the old value menu better

I would never pay $1.69 for the Caesar salad, fries or drinks. That's a major ripoff.

I will go somewhere else before paying those kind of prices.

Heh... I guess that must be one "small" advantage to living in the "armpit of America" At least the cost of living is still fairly reasonable here and the Wendy's 99 cent menu is still intact (for now...)

I'm sure it will go up eventually, just like other restaurants in the area.

Remember when McDonald's used to have $2 for $2 Quaterpounders and Big Macs/large fries? Now when they run that promotion, it is 2 for $2.22.

Remember when Arby's used to have $5 for 5 Roast beef sandwiches... Now it is 5 for $5.95 for the same thing.

Well at least we still have the 99 cent Double Cheezeburger and Crispy Chicken sandwich at McD's and the $1 Whopper Jr. at BKs.

Dairy Queen was doing something similar... they offered single cheese 2/2 and doubles 2/3. They went to 2/2.22 and 2/3.33 and sales dropped significantly (friend owns a DQ) so he rolled his price back.

I'll give him this though, cheap eaters sure are fickle!

I remember when McD's ran the deals for $.19 hamburgers and $.29 cheeseburgers. Man, that got me through many a tight $$$ stretch when I was in college.

I remember that they had that deal on Tuesday nights when I was in college. They had a max 10 burgers per customer rule. Luckily most of the people who worked there were in college so they never enforced it. I lived on those. I also lived on 39 cent soft tacos at taco bell. You could get a "6 pack" of them for $1.99. Plus you got free refills at the taco he11. I think it was the only way I was able to make it through college on my shoestring budget.

At VaTech there was a pizza joint (VPPie) that had large pepperoni pizzas for $2.99 (limit 6). We lived off of those too!

If I ate that way today I'd balloon up 50 pounds in 6 months. McD's, pizza, and Taco Bell. Oh yeah, and a few beers from time to time as well.

We had a place called Pizzeria Italia that had $4.99 large pies. They still have the best freakin' pizza you can get.

No doubt - definitely cannot eat like that now.
