Pats Marquise Hill dead after jet ski accident: NO LIFE JACKET!

what is it with the athletes and their refusal to wear seat belts, helmets on motorcycles, life jackets, call a cab, etc??? anyone who has ridden a PWC knows that you ALWAYS wear a jacket. it's WAY too easy to get thrown off of one of those and have it bob away quickly. plus, it would be super easy to smack your head on it and get knocked out.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) --The body of New England Patriots player Marquise Hill was found Monday, a day after he was reported missing following a jet ski accident on Lake Pontchartrain.

Hill's body was discovered by searchers about a quarter of a mile from where the 24-year-old former LSU star and a female companion were involved in the accident, Capt. Brian Clark of the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Department said......
The woman, whose identity was not available Monday, was rescued and sent to Tulane Medical Center where she told them Hill had tried to keep her calm as the two were drifting away from each other.

Neither Hill nor the woman wore a life preserver, Atkeson said.

"It's so important to have a life jacket and a signaling device," Atkeson said. "One keeps you afloat and the other helps us find you."

Not only was he not wearing a life jacket but he was also riding at night, which is illegal on Lake Ponchatrain (sp?). I also heard that the woman he was riding with was not his fiancee who came to the scene after the accident. Sounds like a number of bad decisions.

Hmmm....was out of town I think. Otherwise I might have been on call at Tulane and gotten the full scoop. I'll have to ask around.

I guess since he wasn't wearing a life jacket he deserved what he got? No he didn't. It's still a ****ing tragedy!

No way, but it was EASILY preventable. He's dead because he made a stupid decision. Even in the best contitions you ALWAYS wear a vest on a PWC, no matter what. One sharp turn, you flip it & crack your head and that's the end of it. Even worse was that he had a passenger without a vest, and worse yet was riding at night. It doesn't mention it, but I'd bet a large sum of money that he wasn't sober at the time, either. Given those conditions, he was probably better off playing in traffic blindfolded.

nobody is saying it's not. i'm just dumbfounded at the amount of athletes that seem to feel they are bulletproof!

Don't know if there is confirmation yet but I heard that there were initial reports that no alcohol or drugs were involved. Still a very stupid decision and a tragedy that likely could have been prevented.
