Heh Shoe Shopping

I wish these guys made/sold baseball shoes too!

This coming basketball season I will be bringing my son down to one of their local stores to buy his shoes. It’ll be such a huge change for me to be able to say, “Pick any shoe you want.” Instead of finding the three lowest priced shoes and making him pick from them.

$14.98 for a pair of quality basketball shoes!? Shoot, I’m so all about that.

I'll probably let him get his school shoes there, too. They'll be better quality and cheaper than even Pay Less or Wal*Mart.

Yeah, I think it's pretty cool what Marbury's doing. Whether or not they're up to the quality standards of the other major shoe companies, I can't say, as I've never tried them on or played in them. But depending on how old your son is (I'm guessing he's still pretty young?), it shouldn't matter too much. The quality of a basketball shoe really only comes into play a bit later on (I'd say high school, and in some cases, junior high), when kids are more athletic and therefore prone to be harder on their feet.

He's only 11 and this next season will only be his second, so I think these will work out just fine.

Oprah had this guy on and was all ga-ga over his shoes. I guess the deal is that if you compare the quality of materials and construction, they're right on par with the hundred dollar shoes.

Which, I gotta say, I won't pay that kind of money for shoes for a kid no matter how good they are. Once he starts making his own money, he can buy them himself. LOL

I keep telling him, "You want those? Get a job."

"Mah-om! I can't, I'm only 11."

That's cute.

I still have to reserve my judgement for when I actually get to try a pair on or, even better, play a game or two in them. In terms of the quality of material used in the production of the shoe, I'm sure it's not TOO difficult to match that of the expensive shoes, but there's definitely something to be said about all the research the big companies have done over the decades to produce the kinds of shoes they have, and for the actual production process of their shoes.

That said, I think it's a great deal and perfect for your boy.

Yah, but I'm ok with that.

Last night I showed these to my son for the first time. His team is the Caviliers and so their colors are red, white and blue, so he's got his eyes on the bright r/w/b hightops.

The clothes are resonably priced and pretty snazzy too. (I sound like a commercial, lol).

Honestly... the "big companines" generally tend to push out a whole bunch of really UGLY shoes with ugly color choices... but put the right pro player to endorse it and it becomes a hit.

Pretty much, I long for the days when basketball shoes were simple... Nice clean design with solid colors and only a little bit of "secondary color" for accent.

Do you know how hard it is to find a shoe like that these days? I remember shopping for a basic black shoe a few years back and you just couldn't find one that was simple yet functional. So many of the shoes today have extra plastic/straps/cords/see-through areas/and other god awful designs.

Yah, for my son's school he must have shoes which are all white, all black, or all blue. All. Not mostly. All.

It's dang hard to find them too. I usually spend a month finding shoes which fit the needs of the school *and* which I can still afford.

These guys at starburrys.com (I think I have that right) have a couple solid black shoes and at least one solid white shoe. I'll probably use them for my kid's school shoes.

Actually, I feel you on this one. It's the few styles that come out every once in a blue moon that aren't over-designed, in my opinion.
That said, some of the really ugly ones are also really comfortable and really supportive (ankle). I just wish they'd provide a bit more variety outside of the gaudy, outrageous designs that seem to be popular these days.
