Padres Pitcher Chris Young knocks Derrek Lee the **** out

Step off b*#$%! Actually it didn't connect, but this picture makes it look like it did. Chris Young is about the last person I would expect to get in a fight. But Lee was acting like a little bitch, so he had to handle his bidniz.

Lee, Young ejected after skirmish
Benches clear as Cubs slugger, Padres pitcher throw punches

CHICAGO -- Padres starting pitcher Chris Young and Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee were ejected in the fourth inning of Saturday's game at Wrigley Field.
Young plunked Lee with a pitch in the left shoulder to start the fourth inning. On his way to first base, Lee slowed to say something to Young and then took a swing at the 6-foot-10 right-hander.

Young retaliated with a punch of his own as the benches cleared. Neither player actually landed a punch as peace was eventually restored.

Two others were ejected: Cubs hitting coach Gerald Perry and Padres pitcher Jake Peavy, who left the dugout during the skirmish near home plate.

To that point in the game, Young had worked three hitless innings with two walks and two strikeouts.

Lee walked in his first at-bat in the first inning against Young.

Pads won the game 1 - 0 fyi.

Dude you throw at a dude's head and play dirty like that, people will have words and people will throw down plan and simple.

One of two things, Young tried to hit him. or Young forgot to tip his hat.

I would say that your thread title is a bit exaggerated. According to this report both threw punches that missed:
Quote:
After the pitcher apparently responded, Lee threw a punch that didn't land. Young tried to throw a punch back that missed. Then he and Lee tried to connect at the same time.

By that time both benches had emptied, resulting in pushing, shoving and holding in a scrum as several players fell to the ground before order was restored.

The Padres were not happy Friday after Alfonso Soriano homered off David Wells, stopped at the plate to admire the ball and then started his home run trot with a few steps backward.

[edit]Reread what you wrote below the picture and realized that you said the punches missed. However, I would disagree with your comments about Derek Lee.

If you had watched CY pitch any games ,you would know he is the last guy to throw at someone's head. Plus, he was once again pitching a great game. CY's punch was thrown in self defense after Lee took a swing at him. And yes, Lee is a diva.

Diva or not, I'd be pissed if a pitcher tossed a 100 mph ball at my head too. And CY was obvious NOT sorry for it because he said something that caused Lee to charge him on his way to first base. If he said "Look dude I'm sorry I didn't mean it bro. I lost control of the ball." I don't think Lee would have swung at him.

Baaah, the swing in that pic never would've connected, his arm was nearly fully-entended and was a long way from hitting yet.

"I really don't mind getting hit, but when it's at my head, I feel like it threatened my health," the normally mild-mannered Lee said. "I don't know what his intent was, but it was at my head and he said some things to me I didn't like. It just escalated."

The Padres were not happy Friday after Alfonso Soriano homered off David Wells, stopped at the plate to admire the ball and then started his home run trot with a few steps backward. Peavy was very critical of Soriano's antics.

"If it happened yesterday they have to hit me, not Derrek Lee," Soriano said Saturday. "I don't know if he (Young) did it on purpose. If he did it on purpose, they hit the wrong guy."

Crew chief Gerry Davis said the umpires were aware of the Padres' feelings about Soriano's home run antics.

Probably was some history. I don't know anything about Young, but Lee's actually a pretty stand-up guy. Much better than most ballplayers.

Baseball Tonight said that the only thing they could tell from before the fight was Chris Young saying "I wasn't throwing at you". I could see how that would set Lee off Anyway, I doubt Young will get suspended, but Lee most likely will. Peavy could get suspended as well although all he was doing was bear hugging Lee from behind. The only reason they went down was because there were several Cubs dragging Peavy down from behind. I don't blame the Cubs players for doing that, but that needs to be considered when handing out Peavy's suspension, if he gets one.

Sunday's game should be good. Maddux vs his old club. Let's see if anyone gets plunked!

According to this mornings Tribune, as he was walking to 1st, Lee said something to CY, CY told him "to take his base." This pissed off Lee. Lets face it, the Cubs have been pissed at the Pads since 1984. The sad part is, they havent gotten any better since then. Still poor sports and whiners.

BTW, I do think the home plate ump takes the heat for the fight as he didn't walk Lee towards first and was to far away when it hit the fan.

Spoken like a true die-hard Padres fan

It was an exciting series regardless. I'm going to be the biggest Cubbies fan when the they play the Dodgers. Until then, hopefullly they can realize their talent and pull out of their funk.

You're right, the home plate ump should have walked at *least* half way to first with him.

I agree. Were the other guys who got suspended part of the dogpile on Peavy/Lee?

I heard about a few others - the Cubs hitting coach got a fine and 3 games (for some kind of "unnecessary roughness" when "separating players"). I think a couple of other players got fined.

One thing to remember - "5 games" for a starting pitcher will probably mean missing one scheduled start. But for the starting first baseman, it means missing 5 games.

Is the pitcher only paid for the games pitched? Or is he paid for every game as long as he is suited up and ready to play (if needed)?

Might make a difference...
