Congrats Slamming Sammy - 600 Home Run Club

Sammy hit his 600th homerun yesterday against his former team the Cubs. The Cubs were the only team that he hadn't hit a homer against, and so many think it's appropriate that he do it against them. The Cubs fans turned on Sammy in his later years. I wonder how sweet it felt to hit it off them after be cast aside from the team he loved so much.

There goes the hop. Congrats Sammy Sosa.

Sammys alright except for the roids and that corked bat of his. People forget that he helped save baseball when he and Mark had that homerun derby going. He's no where near as hated as bonds and has a better chance of getting in the hall than mcguire which is still slim at best.

Congrats to Sammy. I've always liked him. I can genuinely accept his corked bat as an accident.

As for the steroids, I loved it when he pulled out some Flinstone's vitamins and told everyone that those were his supplements.

Congrats to Sammy. I'm a cubs fan and lived in Chicago his last few years playing for the cubs. Sammy was vilified for his me first attitude and the corked bat incident. Some of the criticism is just, some of it isn't.

We'll see what happens when the time comes for Hall of Fame voting. I can't see how he wouldn't get in but in strawman votes he did worse than McGuire.

And for good reason. Once the steroid scandal broke, his performance tanked. He became nothing but a strikeout king - a lot of good that did for the team.

Cubs fans didn't turn on Sammy for steroids. This is a misnomer. Most cubs fans continued to embrace Sammy despite the attempts of the local media. Cubs fans turned on Sammy during the corked bat incident and later, during his final season, when he didn't hustle and was generally a malcontent.

I didn't say is was for steroids - it's just that when the steroid scrutiny started, Sammy's output "mysteriously" took a dive. During the last years, he was nothing but a drag on the team.

Sammy Sosa - the only player that could turn an easy double (or potential triple) into a single by having to wait to see if he got to do his "hop" before he starts running to first.

From an outside perspective, the way I saw it was that Sammy didn't hustle and/or was a malcontent because the fans turned on him. He made a huge sacrifice staying with Chicago instead of going to the Yankees or other big market team. He did it because he loved Chicago, and loved the fans of Chicago. After the corked bat incident and when he started striking out a lot, the same fans he loved turned on him and started booing him every plate appearance. That really turned me off to the fans of Chicago. For all that he brought to the game of baseball and the city of Chicago, he was thrown under the bus when he stopped producing. That seemed messed up in my eyes, especially in a time where players a lot of times are only concerned about a paycheck. Sammy wasn't one of those.

Glad he got his 600th, and I hope he stays in the league a few more years.

It's funny how that's all St. Louisans remember him for.
