WWE Newsflash: Chris Benoit, family found dead

Yet another WWE superstar is dead...

Quote:
Chris Benoit, family found dead

June 25, 2007STAMFORD, Conn., June 25, 2007 – World Wrestling Entertainment was informed today by authorities in Fayette County, Ga., that WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and his son were found dead in their home. Authorities are investigating, but no other details are available at this time.

Instead of its announced programming for tonight on USA Network, WWE will air a three-hour tribute to Chris Benoit.

Chris was beloved among his fellow Superstars, and was a favorite among WWE fans for his unbelievable athleticism and wrestling ability. He always took great pride in his performance, and always showed respect for the business he loved, for his peers and towards his fans. This is a terrible tragedy and an unbearable loss.

WWE extends its sincere condolences and prayers to the Benoit family and loved ones in this time of tragedy.

Man... this is just sad...

Looks like murder, or murder-suicide.

This one hurt man. The Canadian Crippler!! I was shocked, at first I thought it was a work, another part of the Vince is dead story, however after seeing that TNA, WWE's main rival also posted a statement it sunk in. Benoit was one of the best dammit. There have been reports that he called in at the PPV saying that he was sick and his family was coughing up blood, but I don't know if the rumor sites are worth trusting (nope). We will just have to wait. This sucks man.

It has been ruled that the deaths of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and their son Daniel earlier today were the result of a double murder-suicide from within the home. WWE.com will have more as soon as it becomes available.

Shame, I have no idea who he is, but by the looks of him he could have had a possible career in the upcoming Cavemen TV series

A high-intensity guy like that going overboard sounds to me like he was on something, most likely meth. Unless he was mentally ill to begin with, that's the only thing that I can think of that would cause a man to kill his son.

I hope that the WWE DOES have good things to say about Benoit. Why? because they did NOT know he was like that. They are just as Shocked as the rest of us TRUE wrestling fans are. I didn't see it coming. I am sure no one saw it coming (perhaps save Benoit). The wrestlers he worked with will have nothing but good things to say about him from their interaction and experiences with him. That doesn't mean they like what he did or agree with it. They will celebrate what he did for Sports entertainment, and he did do a lot. WWE actually is a little pissed right now. They want the MEDIA to take it seriously. The media is crying Roid rage, but his actions and methods do not suggest roids. He had thought this out.

Even though what he did was horrid, the WWE will choose to remember him for what he did in the ring and how they knew him. It is sad that the average joe blow will only remember Benoit for the guy who killed his family and himself, not the true talent in the ring that he was. I loved Benoit and still admire what he did in the ring. I can not agree with what he did ever, but I am still a fan of his for his in the ring work. I will choose to remember him for his in ring work, and will always speak highly for what he has done for the business. And I will acknowledge that it is a shame he could not conquer his demons, whatever they were.

That's a good explanation of your feelings TofuNinja and I hope that you get what you hope for. It is a shame that this is the only way that most people are going to know Benoit's name. Fans like you need to find a way to heal, and it's not going to help it if only the negative is focused on. Hopefully the media can find some compassion in the near future.

Sorry Tofu, but I think that's a bit silly. Wrestling (or any job for that matter) is not substantive enough to positively influence my opinion of someone in the face of murder. Perhaps you have good memories of him, but perhaps you should also reevaluate whether those good memories should remain. If this guy had been someone who wasn't famous (though i had no clue who he was), people would simply be screaming that he's an ******* right now and they hope he's frying in hell.

Clearly, he was somehow troubled and was not as 'good' as the persona that he portrayed for the cameras.

Replace his job title with 'janitor' or 'mailman.' If someone fitting those titles had committed this crime, wouldn't you think it strange to hear someone say, "I know he committed double murder, but I'm going to remember him as being great at cleaning toilets or delivering mail and I wish everyone else would do the same." Double murder trumps pretty much everything in evaluation of my memories of people.

here is what Vince had to say about Benoit. And I think this was the perfect stance for him and the company to take. WTG Vince.

They also have the time line of communication with Benoit. With the facts as they are WWE has done the wise and good thing of pulling all tributes to Benoit from the air and web.

While some people can't understand why I would rather remember Benoit as the entertainer and not the person and have called me silly. I would personally rather remember him what who he was in the ring. Does this mean I love Double murder and am saying I think it is cool. No. I also think Benoit is a coward for killing himself and not standing trial for his horrid actions. However, as a wrestling fan who admired his in ring work, I CHOOSE to remember him for what he did that made me smile even if his recent actions have tainted hell even damaged that view of him that I had forever. For us true fans of wrestling the healing will now start, just like Vince said. Benoit did great things for his profession and perhaps when these wounds heal the TRUE fans can look back and remember him how him for that, as well as shake our heads at how he ended his life and two others. Perhaps only a wrestling fan or a pre double murder suicide Benoit fan can relate.

I thought that this type of wrestling was entertainment, not a sport.

I mean, would these guys ever go to the Olympics?

Kurt Angle and Mark Henry are former Olympic wrestlers who now are WWE superstars (Well actually, Kurt now works for TNA wrestling.. but you get the point.).

Kurt was a gold medalist in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

I think that Vince McMahon's video message was well done and appropriate in dealing with a horrible situation.

That he was I think at one point he was the world record holder too, hence the world's strongest man title.

OK, so Olympians have become wrestlers, but I doubt that "fake" wrestling be ever be a part of the Olympics.
