4:53 p.m. UPDATE: Actor Heath Ledger found dead in NYC residence

The Associated Press

NEW YORK — Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence in a possible drug-related death, police said. He was 28.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment believed to be his home. The housekeeper who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there found him dead at 3:26 p.m.

The Australian-born actor was an Oscar nominee for his role in “Brokeback Mountain” and has numerous other screen credits.

Anyone know if he finished Batman?

and for the joke...they don't know the exact cause of death, but I'm betting he died from a broke back.

C'mon guys, does it really matter if he finished Batman or not? Is 2 hours worth of our own entertainment more important than a man's life?

With that said, this is a tragic loss. So unexpected.

Overall no it doesn't matter. Sorry if it seemed the movie was more important than his life. Otherwise I hope other actors and actresses wake up and see that abusing drugs can have tragic consequences.

He was quite good in The Patriot, and even though I did see Brokeback Mountain-his fake sideburns in that movie made him almost completely unbelievable!..so fake looking.

What a waste of male greatness - he could have been so much more.

And yes, he did finish Batman according to MSN's article

Ledger had finished filming his role as the Joker this year in “The Dark Knight,” a sequel to 2005’s “Batman Begins.”

assuming drugs were involved, it's a shame people still don't realize they will die if they abuse them.

dark knight is in post production, so yes, his job was done.

R.I.P. Heath!

I liked him in "The Patriot" and it was the only movie I saw him in.

I don't think anyone here is trivializing his death (excusing my joke earlier) but trying to find out if we'll get to see his last work. For me, it's not "Is batman finished?" but it's "do we get to see him one more time?"

I liked him as an actor, and I was eager to see how he would handle the part. I don't see how honoring his last work belittles his death.

Wow what a shame. Really liked him as an actor. Funny all the young hollywood you think will die soon just keep going on and the ones you never see partying in the tabloids are dying. Actor Brad Renfro(The Client) died this week too but apparently he had ongoing troubles. Feel bad for Heath's young daughter that he has left behind. So sad
