Apparently Randy Couture signed a new three fight deal. First one will be November 15th against Brock Lesnar. Then after that apparently the winner gets the other champion for a unification belt. (I think it's Nogera vs. Mir)

I'm a fan... Pretty much I moved on to UFC and a bit away from the WWE these days.

Trust me, after watching Pride FC, UFC will feel like a cross between bumfights and backyard wrestling.

I am hoping that Shamrock can relive his old glory and somehow beat Kimbo, or at least make a good fight out of it. I have been a fan of Kimbo for a while now, but Shamrock is one of my all-time favorites.

Are you talking Ken or Frank Shamrock?

Pretty much, Kimbo needs to learn more submission defense. If he gets that, then he might be close to unstoppable. However as he is, he's a straight up brawler who'll put your lights out in a straight up striking match. Submissions is his main weakness (his ground game is coming... however it's somewhat weak as well although it has improved since his debut.)

I think Kimbo would have fit in well in the beginning of UFC. I just don't think he'll really ever develop now. I think he was thrust into the spotlight without any real training.

I'm guessing he'll beat Ken easily though. I think Ken is way past his prime, and at this point will do anything for money.

yeah right. These promoters are trying to build Kimbo up to be the 2nd coming. They're lining Kimbo up with all these has beens to jack up hype. Kimbo will demolish Shamrock (who's been too old ever since tito's been beating up on him), and move on to one more training fight before he fights a real contender, and if he wins that, a belt shot. they're trying to fast track him to stardom.

He's talking about Ken since Kimbo's next fight is against Ken.

I watched UFC whenever I have a chance. However my friend is really into it including betting on fights.

I'm a huge MMA fan. I really liked Pride, the unification will work out.

If Shamrock can take Kimbo to the ground he should have a serious advantage.

I was really skeptical about Brock Lesnar making the transition from WWE to UFC. I'd have to say so far, pretty impressive.

Does anyone know when Crocop will be coming back? After he got knocked the F out but Gonzaga I haven't heard much about him.

I thought I saw that CroCop left UFC. Maybe I'm wrong on that one though.

Am I the only one who really prefers the cage over the ring? I hate when it goes to the ground and they have to move to the center of the ring. Really feels like a jarring break in the action.

Well, Lesnar's jaw hasn't been tested, but I'd put Brock as a heavy favorite. Probably could have been an Olympic wrestler if he wanted to.

brock looked pretty good his last fight. I dunno if that'd be a guarantee. I think Brock owuld try to take kimbo down, and Kimbo doesn't look tested on theg round yet. We'll see how he deals with shamrock.

Every once in a while I will catch one of these fights and my question will show how little I actually know on this subject....but, here goes. I thought Kimbo Slice was basically taken straight off the street and his fighting was nothing more than all out win or die street fighting. My understanding was that his lack of formal training and background made it so they thought he would never really amount to anything in MMA.

As for Randy Couture....I thought he had long retired.

That's my understanding true. Maybe with some training, he'll be good, but right now you'll notice he's not really fighting anyone very good. Put him in with any real top 10 heavyweight and it'll be a short fight. Unless he gets a lucky punch in.

Since last October, he'd been saying he wants to fight Fedor, and Dana White wouldn't sign Fedor to a 1 fight deal. Basically Randy and the UFC got into tons of legal fights. Frankly, I think once he say Fedor beat Sylvia, he probably wasn't so keen to fight Fedor anymore. Plus, I'm guessing the UFC payday is hard to ignore.

From the article I read in Maxim (that being my only reference) on Kimbo is that he was a self taught street fighter/brawler. I think he would have faired well in the old time UFC fights long before you needed you be a well rounded fighter and before the days of the Gracies. Guys like Tank Abbott did fine in stand up punch them until they fall.

Randy has retired after winning back his belt. I haven't really heard any more about him. I know he runs a training center up in Oregon.

If you guys get a chance and want to see the science of the MMA fighters National Geographic Channel ran a show called Fight Science. They had Bas Rutten, Randy Coture, Tito Ortiz and Dean Lister on it, and they show the force behind punches, elbows, kicks, slams, and submissions.

I really want Fedor Emileanenko to come to the UFC.

He looked good against a middle of the pack fighter. The Frank Mir fight is was a better example.

Every time he got Heath Herring to the ground he sat on Herrings back and punched (and not very effectively). Herring gave him his back and Lesner couldn't/wouldn't even try to put his hooks in.

In the Mir fight, he knocked Mir down and got too excited against a real professional, and Mir made him pay for it.

Honestly, I don't think Lesner deserves a title fight. However they have invested so much money into him, they are fast tracking him.

Re: Kimbo

Kimbo, much like Lesner, will crumble under REAL competition.

Well, who owns who or how "big" either event is was never what I looked for in MMA. What I've always loved about Pride FC is their level of organization. I feel Pride FC has always done a good job of setting up their rules and restrictions, which allow for enough crowd-pleasing brutality while maintaining a certain level of order and professionalism. I've watched a lot of UFC matches too and I'm not saying it is tasteless by any means. Personally I just find Pride FC's "balance" to fit my taste more. That being said, this is a UFC thread so I'm gonna shut up and let you guys enjoy it.

not at all. please join in on the pride talk. I only wish that they would show pride fights on spike tv and the like. It would be great if we got more exposure to the Japanese MMA organizations. But like I said, I haven't been able to see much because the UFC will never allow them to get bigger than them here in the US.

I can understand fast tracking other folks who've had success in Pride and other organizations in Japan, but Lessner? blah.

that said, he's huge, and he can only get better.

I agree it's too bad it's not more easily accessible here. The only ways I've been able to watch it are through Pay-per-View, which may become harder as you predict, and torrent sites. It's too bad. Maybe I'll use this chance to really get into UFC. I haven't really paid attention to it in the last year or two, so maybe I'll like it more this time around. I'm curious the watch the three big games mentioned by the OP.

Couture retired out of UFC cause he didn't want to lose to Noguiera, he wanted to fight Fedor but UFC wouldn't sign fedor, so couture left. He wanted to fight for affliction but can't because he's under contract for his next 2 fights to be with UFC. Lawsuits happened and i think couture has to fight 1 fight? Not 100% sure how that turned out.
Kimbo is in Elite FC, and Brock is in UFC. They won't fight anytime soon unless Elite goes under, which is quite possible.

MMA is growing but all the little companies are struggling and will probably disband or be eaten by UFC.
Kimbo is somewhat raw and so they picked old Ken to fight so that Kimbo doesn't lose. If Kimbo loses, the hype is over, and Elite is dead.
Affliction is trying to come up, thats why they held that big pay-per-view. Dana White hates any competition and thats why he put on a free spike tv big card the same night to draw people away. I dont know the outcome, but i think affliction did well enough to keep going. But they signed some very heavy contracts for that fight. THey hope to keep going but it's going to be close on the money...

And no, i dont know anything about this stuff...
