'Twist' named top song of Billboard Hot 100 era
http://my.earthlink.net/article/top?...910-1865920009
OK- gimme a break. The Macarena named one of the Top Five songs that shaped Rock and Roll? Right off the bat I cannot take this list seriously. Rob Thomas and Santana "Smoothe" was nice, but not that influential either and they have it at #2 behind Chubby Checker's "Twist". I have actually seen Chubby Checker in concert- but that was in the 1980's. I would expect somebody like Chuck Berry up there. OK- I guess they are looking just at sales figures. But is it fair to compare sales of Elvis with there being a lot more copies available today and more people to buy them. Quote:

The Hot 100 charts are kinda unreliable. I like how they don't actually give the real methodology for making the list. Good thing a bitter Chuck Berry always makes for delightful reading.

One of the dumbest songs ever. And it is so popular that no one even sings it at Karaoke. And I doubt that it is popular at weddings, either. But I could be wrong about that.

Same here -- it is very popular at weddings (partly because it's a song every generation tends to know well and can dance to).
