NFL away games

So, this past Monday, I got to go to the MNF game with teh Steelers and the 'Skins. (note: I think I finally recovered today) I was fotunate enough that one of my friends, and former co-workers, is one of the Hogettes. He was able to get me a couple of tickets at face value for the game. I sort of expected a MNF game to be a little more crazy than this one was and I definitely expected it to be more of a hostile environment than it was. There were tons of Steelers fans there. I would say a good third of the people in attendance were Steelers fans. Besides two friendly but misguided 'Skins fans nobody harrassed us. After the first quarter one of the misguided fans went to drink at the stadium bar and by the beginning of the third quarter the other one disappeared never to be seen again. I had a blast and it was nice that Fed-Ex field felt like Heinz field East.

I guess I am more used to college games where the crowd gives the opposing fans a bunch of grief and more or less make it a hostile environment. Is this a typical only to college football games or is it the standard for NFL too? I don't have much perspective because I have only attended Steelers home game in the past. This was my first NFL away game vice a 'Skins vs Cincy game in 2005. I have been to at bunch of college away games. Anyone have any insight here?

I think NFL games are more classy. College is so much more "mean".

you're at a steelers skins game. that doesn't scream rivalry.

any more hostility during a ravens-steelers game? there's more rivalry there. ravens-colts games have rivalry at least in baltimore, cuz them damn colts packed up in the middle of the night and left. i would expect ny/philly games to have that intensity.

i think for regular games, not that much unless you have a fool who got way to drunk.
for rivalry games, you'll have more during the game, but not so much afterwards.

I wouldn't exactly say NFL games are more classy... afterall, if santa gets showered with snowballs in philly, and fans will throw snowballs at each other in jets games.... yeah, not exactly classy.

I see what you are saying. I guess in college it doesn't matter if it is a rivalry or not. It should be more like that in the NFL.

You should attend a Chargers/Raiders game. Oh brother, they always have to increase security.

Um, which stadium? When they play at Qualcomm it's usually pretty civil.

You know what's a scary rivalry? Dodgers vs. Giants in baseball. That's just screaming bloody murder in the parking lot...seriously

At Qualcomm, of course the last time that I went and saw a brawl was a couple years ago.

Depends on the city. Going to DC as an away fan probably wouldn't be bad unless it was an NFC East matchup. However, I would never want to go to a Raiders or Eagles game as an away fan.

The same can be said in many respects about college games. I've found that the majority of fans are pretty good except at rivalry games. The one component that is very different at college games is college students who are typically a bit more unaccommodating to away fans.
