If I get a Tivo, anyone know if I can program it to record like a VCR? I.E., without having to go through their menus, call their service thru the phone lines, pay the $10, etc.?
Thanks |

Yes the services is required, its where the TIVO unit actually downloads the tables which enable you to record. You set the time for the unit to go and capture all the data, say 1 am, and the unit dials in and downloads the data at that time everyday. This gives you the most up to date information about what is going to be online.

Just got the panasonic showstopper 20 hour deal for $250 with $100 rebate.
Comes with ReplayTV service, AND you can record without the service! |

You went with the better piece. The SHowstopper is just another name for the replay. In case you didnt know, Replay has no fan, so its quieter. Its always recording so you can actually go back and rewind a show that you were instructing it to record, although it is only for a 30 min window I believe. Overall its a nicer machine.
