So who got their copy already?

I didn't get in on the online pre-orders while they were around. Then Best Buy had a deal on it yesterday for $27.99, the one by my house only had 23 copies in the morning and were gone by the time I got there. The other location about 5 mins away had 32 copies, but still no luck. So I had to take a rain check, wonder when they'll be re-stocking this item.

So once again, who's got their copy already? =)

Yeah I had one sitting in my Shopping Cart at Amazon, but didn't order in time and they're all out now. They have em at Amazon (oops I mean eBay), but I bid $35 and got outbid. It was called a "limited edition." do you think they might not be selling anymore??? I hope they do....

for somebody who has "akira" as their sig, I'd expected you to have gotten in on this a little more quickly man!!

I saw it on when it was first available for pre-order, Buy.com was the only one. I kinda guessed that they would release the DVD since they re-released back in the theaters (only a select few), back a couple of months ago.

I kinda waited for a cheaper pre-order to come up and as time went by. I kinda forgot about it..

oh well, at least Best Buy has a great price for it. And I still have my rain check.

Well, I read somewhere that they're not gonna produce anymore. From now on it's gonna be in regular amray case packaging. I hope they're wrong. I don't wanna pay a rediculous price for it at eBay.

just thought of a question, is it the regular edition of the 2-disc collector's?

I mean there's lot of regular single-disc edition here on the shelves too.. but we don't want none of that..

Silly people, Akira deluxe can be found at Costco.com for $28.99 - after tax and shipping it was 33.29. Hope that helps

hey thanks for the heads up. I just ordered it and it came out to the same amount as you mentioned. Great price!! I'm glad I waited for a chance like this before paying a ridiculous price on eBay.

BTW, just wanna say thanks to ufcrusher. this is the second time you've helped me on finding a good deal. Remember a while ago when you told people about the great deal on the Energy Take5 speaker set at GoodGuys($250 I think...)?? Well, as soon as I read your thread I ran over to GoodDuys and was able to get my hands on the last set in stock-- I'm currently using the Take5's and couldn't be happier with them. thanks.

Well I got my copy today...here is the scoop. It is the special edition 2-disc set but its not the limited edition set. From what I discovered, there were actually three copies of the movie for sale. THere is the single disc unit which goes for $14, then there are 2 two disc sets. one is the limited edition metal case and the other is the special edition plastic case. In terms of the material, both sets have the same material, its just that the metal set was only for pre-orders (I believe).

I did find a metal set today for $36 and I did order it, but if it turns out to be the same as what I have it will go straight back. I am actually debating about cancelling it already since it was $40 after priority mail. (Spun.com)

What, if any, are the differences that I might have missed? Does anyone know if both double disc sets were limited production or only the metal set.

If anyone else ordered it thinking that it was the metal case, I apologize as I didnt realize that there was a difference between the two disc sets.

yeah, I just received the AKira DVD from Costco.com and it's not the Limited Edition Tin Case set. It's the special 2 disc edition, but in the plastic case. But that really doesn't matter. I wasn't really looking for the case anyway. And I believe everything on the discs are the same. I'm totally happy with that. I jsut watched it today and it is absolutely awesome. I've bought bootleg HongKong copies of Akira before because I always wanted it on DVD, but Akira has never looked so good until now. And the sound is amazing too. Too bad only the English dubbed track is in 5,1 Suround and the Japanese track is only in Prologic. Other than that, I'm totally satisfied.

got mine with the metal case, cuz I put in a rain check with Best Buy when they first brought in the Limited Edition Akira 2-Disc Set. Got it about a week after it's first release. Watch it twice so far.... love it... and I like what they've done with the new dialogue. At least now, it's more "Japanese". e.g. The pronouciation of the name Kaneda...

I would be curious to compare the limited edition, which I have vs. the regular 2 disk set... any takers?

The only difference is the metal case, the movies are the same. I actually opened up both copies (the special edition and the limited edition) and its identical discs.
