Signs: Spoiler Alert at the bottom!

I have one word to perfectly describe this movie:

CREEPY

But I LOVED the movie and definitely recommend seeing it!

I spent the first half of the movie kind of being freaked out, but laughing a little and jesting about the "theories" about the crop circles, etc.

By the end, I was nodding along with him as he figured out the process of everything from his wife's death (did you catch how she & Ray (the driver) said the same thing, "It was meant to be." Creepy!), to the asthma, the water thing with his daughter, the swing phrase about his brother, etc. It truly creeped me out but I loved it. I'm just glad we went during the day!

This wasn't necessarily a "must see," but I liked it. There was a lot more humor than I'd anticipated.

His typical ending was more subdued, and it didn't shed an entirely new light on the entire film (a la Sixth Sense), but it tied up all of the loose ends, if that makes any sense.

I saw it last night. It was shot just a few miles from here.
I thought it was mildly entertaining, but it was definitely not Mel Gibson material. Sort of a low key version of Friday the 13th, without all of the bloodshed.
Did you notice how they made him look like the dumbbell compared to the kids? I guess that's the next step in Hollywood.

Oh, see, I disagree with everything you said there... (No offense. )

First, I think it was Mel Gibson material. He brought depth to the character. I didn't see him at ALL as a dumbbell compared to the kids. I saw him as a man who was so caught up in the grief of losing his wife so unexpectedly that he pretty much quit living. He loved his kids and did the necessities for them, but other than that, he shut down.

His revelation at the very end of the movie that God had done all those bad things (his wife's death, his brother's way of batting, the son's asthma, etc.) so that they would be able to survive he alien attack... To me, that brought back the life to the man.

It's a lot like real life in some cases. Even if you have children, the death of a spouse, unfortunately, causes a lot of people to become almost the living dead. I thought this movie portrayed that quite well...

I can see where you're coming from. I just had to put my cat to sleep over two weeks ago and I was a Zombie for the first week.
I guess losing a wife or a child would make a person give up, too.
I think that theme would have played out better in a different kind of movie for him.
The alien thing was a just a bit hokey and lacked depth.
