Red face Keanu Reeves as Superman

Whoa.

http://www.corona.bc.ca/films/details/superman5.html

FOX News' Roger Friedman was the first to break the story today: not only is Brett Ratner the new director for Superman 5, but it's none other than Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) who's been cast to play Superman!

Friedman says his sources say "the deal is done and [Ratner] is in." As for Reeves, the article says he's been "tapped", which could mean he's signed, considering it, attached to the part or rumored.

Friedman's story also mentions one new item: he refers to J.J. Abrams script as Superman: Last Son of Krypton and not The Man of Steel. Interesting, eh? Hang on, it gets better. [David Falkenheim, Gary Helgerson, Mikel and an anonymous dude were first to tell us; first appeared on FOX News.]

Earlier today Variety broke the story that Brett Ratner is no longer in talks to direct Paycheck, the movie in development based on the Philip K. Dick short story. According to the trade mag, it's now Kathryn Bigelow (K-19: The Widowmaker) who's in negotiations to helm the feature. So why did Ratner move away from doing Paycheck as his next film, huh? Oh, it gets even better. Stick around. [Source: Variety.]

Thanks to the boyos at Superhero Hype, we were turned on to an article at Sky Movies which dumps even more gasoline on this fire: they say Ratner's in and -- hold on to your chair -- he's asked Anthony Hopkins to play the part of Superman's father, Jor-El! Yeah, it sounds absolutely crazy to us too but maybe Sky News knows something we don't. [Sky News.]

And finally, the coup de grāce arrived late this evening from one of our well-known spies who works in the industry. He confirms that Reeves has indeed been cast as Superman in the film!

This source has been extremely reliable in the past, and told us about many inside casting and business deals weeks before they made it to the trades. He tells us Reeves is, and we quote, "confirmed", and he's been so very, very right many times before. [How deep cover is this guy? He's got his own fortress of solitude.]

If Reeves is indeed going to be playing the new Man of Steel, the cat's already out of the bag and Warner Bros. will have to make an annoucement shortly.

Stay tuned folks!

Thats trippy! But Keanu Reeves??? I'm surprised he found work after 2 Bill & Ted movies. I just can't picture him as Superman, he's way too scrawney, which is why his part in the matrix worked so well.

Hapoo, you forgot to add Dean Cain to your list. Of course it messes up the coincidence.

They should do like spiderman and gamble on an unknown. let the story and effects drive movie sales intead of a 30 million dollar a movie actor.
It's cuz movies made with stars sometimes lack substance.

Take that 30 mill, dump 25 of it in a good script for once and give 5 mill to a new face.

I hear what you are trying to say, but I would hardly consider Toby McGuire an unknown.

Hapoo was sticking to movie actors names in his statement. And the other weird thing is, the radio Superman was "Reeve" also.

I am 6'4" tall, I have the shoulder broadness, and I look a lot more stronger than he does. You gotta be buff to play Superman. And I can't picture Superman going, "Whoa" in the movie at least once. That just isn't right. I mean, Superman has a very fast thinking brain...he can think faster than any human can. Somehow, I don't see Keanu Reeves fitting into that picture.

Puh-leez.

Hey, maybe they can just add padding to their clothes like they did in that cool, cool Street Fighter movie.

Dean Cain's not exactly the brightest crayon in the box either.

Keanu's 6'1", not all THAT short. Besides, I thought Nicolas Cage was lined up to be the next "Man of Steel."

Check out "The Cider House Rules" Absolutely a fantastic movie that lost to Gladiator for Best Picture. Worth seeing if you haven't.

Dean Cain isn't all that bright, no. However, I was just referring to the character of Superman / Clark Kent.

Nicholas Cage WAS scheduled to be the next Superman when they were going to make a Superman movie around the time that Superman turned into a being made of electricity (he evolved) in the comic books. That project was scrapped though.

I could be wrong but the Cage project was scrapped partly cuz of fanboys writing it the D.C. They said in no way does that loser represent Clark Kent let alone Superman. Good for them!
I, on the other hand, would make a great Superman!

Yea "The Cider House Rules" was great. A definite recommendation!

Can't picture Cage as Superman....I'd rather have Reeves than. But yea, maybe they SHOULD just go with a someone new instead of dishing out the dough on someone who can't act.

Df,
Where'd all the haters come from?
You'd of thought all these "fans" would cheer one of on as the next Superman, especially over Keeanu or Cage....
I'm all for a black Superman and while where at it if you really want to make Batman the "dark knight".......

Haha, you forget that you are dealing with Hollywood. It has to be either a comedy or an all-black movie before a black man can be in the starring role.

Yeah, they are getting better, but only time will tell...

What about Blade? and Art of War?

Do the Lethal Weapon series count?

Oh, is Keanu Reeves gonna be Superman in the "Superman vs Batman" movie? Or is this something different? Who's gonna be Batman? It better not be George Clooney!!!!

True, but Danny Glover wasn't the star, he was a co-star... though I'd be curious to compare his pay to Mel's for the same movie.

Nicholas Cage is going to be Johnny Blaze in the movie "Ghost rider"
Apparently he 'begged' for the part.. He is completely enthralled in comics and just recently sold his collection for 1.4 million or something like that..

Nuts.. heh

johnny blaze is young... and has hair... and is cool...

three things Mr. Cage is lacking.

I don't like him. He's not a very good action IMHO
