The 9ers fires Mooch...
And now what? I am a huge fan of the 49ers, and they certainly have come a long way since their dismal seasons a few years ago. Mooch has done a tremendous job rebuilding the team, but I don't like his conservative play calling.
What ya guys think? And who will be the new head coach? Where will Mooch go? Any predictions? |

i think the likely candidate is mike holmgren. granted i dunno jack about football, but thats what i think is likely. and mariucci is bound to find plenty of offers. he's a great coach. sadly, even with great seasons that land them in the playoffs, both of my hometown teams fire their coaches.
maybe thats a sign for them to put up a losing season so they'll keep their jobs? |

i think it's bull that mooch got fired, but hey....i'm from detroit so what do i know.
as a columnist in the DetNews said, "if joey harrington completes 3 passes in a row, we're ready to elect him governor. in SanFran, Mooch takes the niners to the playoffs virtually every year, and he gets fired." i really think that the whole "conservative play calling" thing is kind of bull too. i think that first of all, given their personnel, they couldn't take too much more of an agressive stance. second, i think he was going for more balance, which is good too. i mean, the passing game isn't going to work 100% of the time, so it's valuable to have a running game to support the passing game. also, a good running game will make the passing game even more effective. but anyway, i'm sure mooch will be fine. he's land somewhere else and probably be happier anyway. |

Yeah, I think Mooch is a great coach. He didn't deserve this.
Then again, I am an Arizona Cardinals fan. Firing coaches is a full-time occupation, but they still suck every year ![]() |

Mistake!
Who they gonna get now? The 9ers were out-classed by TB's insane D. They were lucky to get to the 2nd round. "Mooch" has about a 1/2 dozen job offers coming his way. There's a lot of vacancies this year and not a lot of good coaches. The 9ers have Owens but Garcia is no Montana(not yet). I think he got more out of that team than any other coach got out of theirs. I'm a L. A. fan (USC football is all I have now) but I can see what a good job he did. Well, we'll see next season. Go Bucs! -jel ![]() |

I agree with most of what jello said...
I enjoyed college football this season much more than NFL. USC, my alma mater, had a slow start, but pulled a strong ending, spanking UCLA, Notre Dame and Iowa's collective butts. I hope the 9ers bounce back strong next season. |
