Exclamation Fox Planning Joe Millionaire 2 & unmasks 'Personality' in April

NEW YORK - Flush with the success of "Joe Millionaire," Fox executives said Wednesday that they are readying a second edition.

Fox would not say when the hit reality series would return or how a sequel would differ from the first, which was based on a joke that everyone but the female competitors were in on.

"It can't be done identically to the first one for all the obvious reasons," said Sandy Grushow, Fox Television Entertainment chairman.

Grushow said the network "has come up with a notion that carries all of the same values forward. We're obviously optimistic that it will perform extremely well when it returns."

An estimated 40 million viewers watched the final hour of the series on Feb. 17, helping lead Fox to its first-ever victory in a ratings "sweeps" month among viewers aged 18 to 49.

And not to forget Fox is about to debut "Married by America". Moving along...

LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- Is it all about looks, or is it a man's personality that stirs romantic inclinations in a woman? Fox Broadcasting Co. is looking to find out with the latest entry in its Monday reality wheel, "Mr. Personality," from Bruce Nash Entertainment and the G Group.

If "Joe Millionaire" was Fox alternative guru Mike Darnell's twist on "The Bachelor," then "Mr. Personality" is his twist on "The Bachelorette." The show will involve a woman selecting a mate from a group of men, all of whom have their faces disguised by masks. The audience, however, will be able to see their faces.

The woman will gradually eliminate her masked suitors, and in "Dating Game" fashion, she'll finally get a look at them once they're out of contention. The big payoff at the end of the seven-episode series, of course, will be that the woman gets the chance to see her ultimate selection.

"What this show is about is what women are interested in when it comes to relationships," Nash said. "Is it looks, or is it a guy's sense of humor, his morals, his values? In this show, she'll actually be getting to know him from the inside out as opposed to the outside in."

"Mr. Personality" is set to premiere April 21 following the conclusion of "Married by America," which begins its run in the Monday 9 p.m. slot next week.

"Mr. Personality" will open with a group of about 20 men who will be sequestered in an undisclosed location with the woman during the production. Producers plan to hold casting calls around the country to find a beautiful woman in her late 20s-early 30s, while the male contestants will be cast with an eye toward lining up a group of guys whose physical attributes are similar.

As for the masks, Nash said they will be designed to be mysterious and exotic rather than frightening. And yes, the woman will be allowed to kiss and otherwise get close to her masked men.

Nash, a prolific producer of reality/unscripted fare including NBC's "Meet My Folks," said the idea for "Mr. Personality" had been kicking around for several months, before the "Joe Millionaire" onslaught, but it picked up steam at Fox after "Millionaire" proved such a smash. Nash co-created the series with Robert Kosberg and will executive produce with Brian Gadinsky of G Group. Kosberg is serving as co-executive producer.
