Much respect to Jr.

What a fight! Nothing spectacular just a fairly clean battle between a normally lower weight boxer and a heavy weight with decent creds.

Jones kicked his @ss basically from round 1 to 12. I am very impressed with how Roy went toe to toe with him too.

Ruiz looked lost and uninspired for most of the match. Did you catch the old guy in his corner. "@#$#@$@#$$#@ @$@# @#$" LOL.

Was a great fight. Only thing that could have made it better was a knock out, but Jones wasnt strong enough to do that. Other than that, it was really entertaining.

Yea, thats not a real good thing for Jones that at the end of the 12 round fight where he's tattoing Ruiz, Ruiz doesn't have a single cut, puffy eye, or bruze to speak of. He was deffinately the better boxer by far, but he didn't seem to do much damage.

Ruiz was bleeding. His nose was plugged and he had some bruising.

I think after 7 or 8 rounds Roy or his team decided to play it safe. Mix it up just enough to give the fans something but don't risk taking a big shot from Ruiz.

What's next for RJJ? Hope he doesn't try Lewis cuz I see a guy like Lewis destroying Jones in a couple rounds.

Actually, I beg to differ with you on this...

Case in point... back when he lost his title for the one and only time (on a referee reversal... claiming that he hit the guy while he was down like after 5 or 6 rounds)

If I remember correctly Jones was disqualified for delivering a couple of low blows. Clearly they were not intentional as he was way ahead at the time.

And it is always a pleasure to watch Jones fight. Got to be the best boxer/fihter to come along in quite some time. I'm just glad he's not climbing into the ring after playing hoops anymore.

I didnt mean to make it sound like I was dissing him DF. Jr is the best boxer pound for pound that we've seen in a looooong time.

I'm not a hardcore boxing fan, I know the major fighters names and I watch the big fights so when I do watch a fight anything less than a knockout is disapointing to me, no offense to Roy. Luckily Roy puts on a good show either way with his pysche out moves and trick punches.

Damn DF, you sure have a hard-on for Roy eh?

Anyways, you know you get less brain damage from one KO punch in round 1 than taking a sustained beating for 12. If Roy had such a great "consious", and values his opponents so much, why does he showboat and taunt his opponents constaintly before, after, and during the rounds. Roy is an awesome boxer, I'll give him that, but he's far from being a good sportsman in my view.

Oh, and he doesn't have enough power to take on a good heavyweight with skills like Klitshcko or Lewis. Maybe if he gained another 25 pounds, but I don't think he'll defend that heavyweight belt ever anyways, so it doesn't matter.

Roy Jones Jr. is awesome. DarkFury, would you say that Sugar Ray is more responsible for his greatness, or do you think it was his dad that made him what he is as a fighter? I have read much about Jones Sr., and from what I have read he was a great trainer.

this guy's badass.

i saw a special they had on him on fox sports net, and i heard the guy talking say that on one fight, jones had broken his wrist a couple days before the fight. him nor his dad told anybody about the broken wrist, and he still fought like that. and even though he had that broken wrist, he still beat the guy.

and i dont know if it was a different fight, but there was one where he broke the guy's rib from hitting him so hard. that's the hit that knocked the guy down and he didn't get up.

that's hardcore.

hats off to RJJ

Actually it is a combination of the 2...

From his Father, Roy developed an AWESOME work ethic. Roy Sr. used to have Roy out there "workin'" when all the other kids were probably playing. Some folks say that he probably worked him too hard, but honestly, I think that is the foundation of what you see now... the base "hard metal" of his character.

Sugar Ray "refined" Roy's style... He took Roy in at a point in his career where he was dejected from not winning the Gold medal in Seoul, Korea. At one point, I think Roy even considered quitting boxing... since it was apparent that there were "folks" who didn't want him to succeed. However Sugar Ray stepped in ('cause he knew that Roy had all the potential to be great) and basically crafted this "hard metal" into a fine blade (like a blacksmith...). The main things that Sugar taught him where how to use his speed to his advantage. Through Roy Sr, he already had power... but speed and being able to strike at odd angles of attack and keeping opponents off guard are most likely directly attributable to Sugar Ray.

Just had to smile, didn't know a brother was sooooo poetic.
I wish there was a legitimate challenger at his natural weight. He's always just so much better than his opponents.
