Why? In movies, when someone hangs up a public phone...
99% of the time you hear the coin hit the change slot as if the call never connected?
Do they do that on purpose? Or do they think we are just not that observent? Am I just a couple of fries short of a Happy Meal? ![]() |

Maybe it's the same reason that whenever a car stops or pulls away in the movies, you hear the tires squeal. Acoustics in movieland must be different than here in real life.

actually, what you're hearing (i think) is the coin hitting the "coin box" at the bottom of the phone.
if i remember correctly (with the celly, it's been awhile since i touched a pay phone), the phone counts the money as you put it in, but it doesn't flush it down into the coin box until you hang up the phone. or, if no connection was made, when you hang up, it diverts it into the coin slot. |
