Hey Roni, Yeah I like Yao, but if you are a b-ball fan and have 5 mins, you should check out this video of Amare Stoudemire that the Suns sent to the ROY voters.
For a kid out of high school, he played incredible, and his dunks are lighting-fast. He can actually dribble...if he ever gets a 15-foot jumper, he's gonna be scary. Video is 1/2 way down the page under "Streaming Stoudemire" http://www.nba.com/suns/news/stoudemire_index.html |

mmmm the thread title is a bit misleading...
the players are being ranked based on what this columnist believes is their trade value, not necessarily based on who he thinks is "good," which would understandably change up the list quite a bit... and it is an interesting read, btw...

Yeah this list is the trade value of players. I mean, I would bet you money that the lakers would do a Shaq for Yao trade....well maybe not that, but KG for Yao would certainly fly.
Btw my feelings about Yao and Stevie are perfectly described in this article: Quote:

The list is tainted. He obviously has some fixation with Yao Min. From the rant about Francis to his ranking at #2. Way too early for all that. It would have been like crowning Kobe as the next MJ his rookie year. Under his own guidelines how do you put young Yao over Shaq? Houston would trade Yao for Shaq in a second. Kidd, KG, and Amare Stoudamire had much more of impact this year than Yao.
Gasol seems a litte low and Kenyon over Big Ben ...pleaasse! I think AI is way too high, he's nowhere near washed up. Jermaine Oneal is too soft and doesnt even dominate in the weak east. He could end up better but I hope San Antonio spends all their money on him rather than Kidd. Nowitzki is way too low on the list, no way he's better than Shaq. Nowitzki can shoot but doesnt rebound or play D or bang with other 7 footers. I'll put it this way hes on a team full of these "superstars" and couldnt even finish 1st, had no chance if they met the Lakers and plays no D so all he has to do is score. TD deserves the current # 1 but this list makes Shaq look like he's done. All I see is a lighter Shaq coming back at full strenght next year. Any trade involving Shaq would be considered by any team except maybe Orlando. Kobe will be better next year. ![]() -jel ![]() ps: whats this baggage bs about Amoure? I agree with his ranking but Yao could have national duties or some bs next year, Nowitzki could prove to be fragile, shaq could balloon up to 400 pounds....... Anyone can be better, worse or totally disappear next season. I think hes already better than Brand and thats saying a lot. Last edited by the jello is jigglin : 06-03-2003 at 12:23 AM. |

as for the high ranking of yao, i think a lot of it is based on potential. sure, there are a lot of players who, in the last season, made more impact than yao. but he has solid potential, and a heck of a lot of good playing years left. not to mention that he's a true center, something that's rare in the NBA. that's why i think that, on average, most teams would choose him over shaq if they could have either one. that's not to dis shaq's dominance right now, but if you have to pick between a player who is currently excellent but probably only has 2-3 more good seasons, or a player who will dominate for the next 10-12 years, most are going to go for the long-term bet. |
