Netflix- Worth It
I've been considering subscribing to Netflix (http://www.netflix.com/Default). Does anyone have any experience with it and is it worth paying $19.99 per month to rent as many DVD's you want?
Should've posted this under entertainment... Sorry Last edited by gdllv : 08-15-2003 at 10:05 PM. |

I use it, I like it because of it's independant and foreign film selection. Popular new movies are hard to get sometimes. Other than that, I like it. It has given me the chance to watch movies I wouldn't even have known about.

Nope no problems, I live fairly close though. I live in South San Francisco, and they ship out of San Jose I believe. Usually take a day to send down there and a day to come back, so most of the times with me, I send a dvd in Monday, and get a new one on Wed, Thursday at the latest. If the dvd is lost, either you don't get it or you send it and Netflix doesn't receive it, there is a option in netflix that you can tell them lost in the mail. Then if it was lost being sent to you, they send the same dvd again. If it is lost after you sent it back, they send you the next dvd in your cache.
My brother-in-law didn't receive a dvd, and he told me that it was no problem. I don't think netflix gives you a hard time about it. Unless it happens to get lost a lot going to you or coming from you. |

I think I'll give it a try... They have a free trial for 10 days plus I can cancel anytime if I don't like it. I am just having a hard time justifying the $19.99 per month fee.
![]() One question though to nairda9: Are the DVD's in pretty good shape? Last edited by gdllv : 08-15-2003 at 11:31 PM. |

Yup, DVD are om good shape, once in a while though you get a bad one. In that case you just go to netflix and there is a option to tell them that the dvd doesn't play, they will send you another one right away. |

If you lose a DVD in the mail just report it and they'll send you another one. That's what happened to me. It somehow ended up coming like a month later in the mail and I just sent it back. They didn't try to blame me for stealing or anything

i've dealt with them in the past. it's pretty good service. and the dvds are usually in good shape. as for the price. you just need to watch a lot of movies. the more you watch, the more it becomes worth it. i mean, my gf and i and two other friends went to see s.w.a.t. and it was $37 just for freaking tix! blockbuster charges about $4 a movie, so just watch more than 5 and you'll be fine. |

I've been using Netflix off and on for a couple of years, and I've never had a problem with them. All DVD's in good shape(although I've had to clean one or two) and only one lost in the mail which they didn't blame me for. The best thing for me is no late fee. I can't ever seem to take my movies back in time so Netflix is perfect for me.
By the way, there are other plans at Netflix. I think you can rent 2 for $15.

For those who have the service:
How long does the DVD usually get to your house? My 3 DVD's shipped on Monday, I'm hoping to get it tomorrow Also how many DVD's do you guys rent in a typical month? |

I'd give them a try if they could guarantee that I could get ALL of one season of the series that I want... like 24, X-files, CSI, Babylon 5...

I usually receive my dvds usually a day after ship date sometimes 2. I noticed the short wait ones shipped normally take a little longer. I guess they are being shipped from a further warehouse. I could be wrong though. As soon as I receive them I rip to computer and send back right away and watch at a later day if occupied. They usually receive them next day since it is being sent to Santa Ana, CA. If they receive in morning that evening another set goes out. During my trial I avg. about a movie/ day. Also if you are on a trial and cancel. They do offer the service for $14.99 for 6 months to try again right before you confirm cancellation.

I just signed up for the Walmart.com DVD rental plan, free for 30 days, then like $18/month for 3 DVD's at a time....I got my first movie in 2 days, then the next two a day later. All movies are shipped seperate. Burned them to DVD right away and returned them for my next 3....
Don't know if I'll keep the service after the 30 day free trial period, guess it depends on how many of my movies on my list I get and burn.... |

Wasn't satisfied with Walmart's service. I guess it would have to do with living in Los Angeles. Not much of a selection compared to Netflix. And it was taking much longer to get the movies.
