28 Days... Alternate ending...

I just watched 28 Days Later again with a couple of friends, and this time, we were able to see the alternate ending. I'm still up in the air about it. Though it is not as nice--it is more gritty and realistic--, it actually fits the mood of the film much better.

It also changes the entire theme of the film. On one hand, you can say that the only real point in living is survival. On the other hand, you can make the argument that the other people in your life are what makes life worth living.

Either way, I think the character, Selina, still represents a type of fostering mother/mother of humanity even with the alternate ending.

Regardless, this is still a great movie, and I can't wait for it to come out on DVD.

Watched it over at the Archlight/lite (sp?) theatre in Hollywood, which is extremely expensive btw.

Ummm, anyway, all of the releases of 28 Days Later have the alternate ending after the credits are done rolling...

You sure you want me to ruin it for you?

yup

Well, hapoo, you speak for everyone... wait... you are everyone!

Anyway, this is the alternate ending:

As they are speeding away from the mansion, instead of breaking the gate and ending up in this peaceful little cottage at the end of a long, winding, country road, they end up rushing straight to a hospital. They replaced the montage of random images with linear progression where the three are in a hospital, and Jason is dying from a gunshot wound to the stomach. Selina and Hellen (?) try to save him, but ultimately fail, so he dies on the operating table. They then both pick up guns, and the final scene is the two women walking down the hall in nice dresses with guns in hand as the doors swing shut behind them.

That sounds twice as cool. I wish I had known there was another ending when I saw the movie. Anybody got a link to download it?

My guess is that you'd have to Kazaa it, and even then, you might not find it. The thing is, it was released on the British version of the DVD. Maybe, just maybe, when they release the DVD, they will make a special edition with both versions. Maybe even an uncut version.

hmm... maybe i'm in the minority here, but i was disappointed in the alternate ending. i think this is mostly because the commercials hyped it up to be something real big, and it was a difference of a whole two minutes. sure, it changes the mood of the film, and maybe i was too lazy to try to look for any themes, but man, after the second ending finished, i was like "uhhhh, o-kaaayyy... is that it??"

I agree. IMO, that 2nd ending sounds brutal. It was tough enough believing the transformation the younger girl character went through in such a short period, but to have her going into full-on commando-mode...
