You can't say Magic is the best player out there. He might be the best playmaker but I still think Jordan is the best. He could carry the team mostly by himself the rest of his career. He also made other players good/great (Pippen).

LOL

Magics passing ability was 2nd to none. Magic made Kurt Rambus look good. How about Scott or Cooper or an aging Kareem..... Magic played all 5 positions and played them all well. Magic helped make Worthy one of the 50 greatest and Jabbar was a lock on that list. Point guard requires the most playmaking ability and it's the position that helps the other players score the most. The Magicman did it all and has 5 rings so I pick him as the greatest.

Wilt has one ring and you didnt even mention Bill Russel (9 rings?)- the main reason Wilt only has one ring. Kareem has 6 I think. 1 with Milwaulkie and 5 with Showtime.

Speculation is that MJ barely got the 3 peat and wouldn't have been able to get the 4peat, but we will never know. It has to do with the long extended season and fatigue/injuries. Time off may have helped him the same way superstar running back Marcus Allen's carreer may have been lengthened when Al Davis limited playing time on the Raiders.

Congrats Magic, your a credit to the Los Angeles Lakers, the NBA, all of basketball and humanity in general.

Jordan was in the twilight of his career.

Even Superman couldn't carry that sorry-ass team.

Think it'll be better this year?

As for the adulation of Johnson-he threw a ball through a hoop. And yeah some smart hero, the dummy got HIV by screwing around thereby cutting his career short.

i think to label any one player "the greatest of all time" is difficult. magic is certainly a great one. but so is MJ. and wilt, and bill russell, and kareem and a heck of a lot of other players.

i think we could assemble a top-10 list, and possibly a top 5, but between the differences in positions and the differences in different eras of the league, i don't think we can say that magic (or anyone else) is the "best of all time"

that said, i think it's cool they're giving him a statue. my alma mater, michigan state, is doing the same for him. of course, it's not like he actually graduated.... but we're still happy to claim him as a spartan
