Harry Potter books causing headaches...

Latest Harry Potter's a real headache

WASHINGTON, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- A U.S. pediatrician has determined the latest installment of J.K. Rowlings' Harry Potter books can cause headaches in children, a report said Thursday.

In a letter published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Howard Bennett wrote of seeing three patients, ages 8 to 10, who complained of having headaches for two or three days.

"It was determined that each child had spent many hours reading J.K. Rowling's latest book in the Harry Potter series," Bennett wrote in the letter.

"The presumed diagnosis for each child was a tension headache brought on by the effort required to plow through an 870-page book. The obvious cure for this malady -- that is, taking a break from reading -- was rejected by two of the patients, who preferred (painkillers) instead," Bennett wrote.

Bennett, who had not seen similar cases "with any of the previous Harry Potter tomes," noted each new Rowling volume is larger than the last.

"If this escalation continues as Rowling concludes the saga, there may be an epidemic of headaches in the years to come," he wrote.

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

The kids are probably reading in poor lighting. They are mistaking eye strain for a headache - or the eye strain is causing the headaches.

I wonder how much the anti harry potter people paid to him to publish this? Come on... instead of drop everything and read it sounds like don't read... you'll get a headache...

I can just see the kids now....I would have read the chapters assigned but reading gives me headaches... I am allergic to them.
