Hero coming to the US

(i know we talked about this before, but i can't find the thread)

Looks like Miramax is picking up this HK movie and showing it here in the US. It's dated to be in theaters 4/16/2004

if you haven't seen this movie, you need to go see it. it's really good. i think it's soo much better than crouching/hidden animals.

it's also got a great cast: jet li (unfortunately they used "kiss of the dragon" as his credit), maggie cheung (former miss hk), tony liang (a famous hk actor), zhang ziyi (the cute girl from crouching/hidden), donnie yen (a great martial artist, but haven't gotten good roles yet...but you might remember him as the chinese guy in one of the highlander movies, or the only guy that only used a SWORD in blade 2.)

you know, i actually watched this on bootleg DVD, and at first, i was also tempted to say it was better than CT-HD (which isn't saying much, because i hated that movie the first time i watched it). but, i took it to my lil cousin's place to show him, and when i watched it again, my opinion shifted quite a bit.

i just think they tried WAY too hard to make the movie "beautiful" or "poetic" and it only turned out being a bit hokey (i.e. fighting mind-battles, and that one scene when tony liang was doing the calligraphy with the wind blowing in his hair). just a bit too much, and the action didn't always make up for it.

the one thing i DID like was the use of colors to tell the stories. that was a quaint little touch.

Seen it (VCD) but I think it's too slow. The fights are cool but there are not enough of it. It has two of the biggest martial art stars, Jet Li & Donnie Yen.
