Britney's Comeback -- Still in the Zone?

Singer now ‘marketing powerhouse’ but success of new album still in doubt

Singer Britney Spears is pictured on the cover of her first album in two years, titled "In The Zone," which will be released November 18. The first single from the album, titled "Me Against the Music," is being boosted by a steamy music video featuring Spears and singer Madonna.

Two years ago, she sang plaintively that she was “Not a girl, not yet a woman.” For the past couple of months, former pop princess Britney Spears, 21, has been out to prove that girlhood is but a distant memory, posing topless and bottomless for magazine covers and smooching publicly with Madonna to promote her recording comeback.

Works for me . . . did you see that Esquire cover and spread??? I was quite pleased when that came for me at work . . .

I'm more than happy to look at Britney while she's doing this stuff . . . so long as I don't have to listen to her!

Her album is great if you turn the volume down and look at the cover and liner pictures.

As I listen to the promotional snippets of Britney's album, I will have to predict that this album will not be as "catchy" as her previous albums. Many people hate the pop-music formula, and Britney has attempted to stay away from that formula on this CD. Let me blunt about it. It's freaking terrible. Even if a DJ tried, I am pretty sure none of these songs would work in a club setting. You look at her other albums and there were always popular club songs. Second, there are apparently a couple ballads on this CD, but the mastering is so poor that I have to turn the volume up significantly...either the mastering is bad, or her voice is that weak. I'm guessing it's a combination of both.

Basically, this album isn't going to see 1.5M copies in its first week. After this album is released, we will all see the sudden fall in Britney's singing career. Playboy anyone?

I've preferred Christina Aguilera over Britney for pure voice talent, no bias that Christina went to my high school either Either way, they're both getting more ho-ish

The song "the Zone" or whatever it is called is horrible.

you went to the same hs as Christina? were you part of the Christina-bashing club that was there? (according to Behind-the-Music or something like that...)

There was no such club. She left months before anyone knew she was going to be big, so it was usually like "Christina who?" The VH1 special had a part on how everyone booed at Prom when her song came on. That's partially BS. Facts:
1. She never went to our prom
2. It was at a neighboring high school

Christina did NOT have it hard other than at that isolated occasion.

I've been a Christina Aguilera fan ever since she record "Reflection" for "Mulan"

I don't care what she looks like because she IS a singer and her voice is utterly amazing on recordings and in live performances (yes, i have seen her in concert). Sure, some of the bubble gum pop songs are a bit "annoying" per se, but her latest album "Stripped" is her creative talent being put to work. I truly enjoy the CD and definitely recommend it to everyone.

Christina vs. Britney as singers: Christina hands down
Christina vs. Britney as entertainers: I think Britney will take this because she just sells sex
Christina vs. Britney in terms of career longevity: Christina hands down
