Oh boy, where to start. I won't claim that these are my absolute favorite songs, because I really don't have just one. But these are all high on the "Gets my adrenalin on" factor.

Misfits - Devil's Whorehouse, among many others
Big Black - Bad Penny, or pretty much anything off of "Songs About ****ing" or "Rich Man's Eight Track Tape (also known as 'Atomizer')"
Black Flag - Scream, Forever Time, Rise Above, Three Nights
The Clash - Train in Vain, Wrong 'em Boyo, Police are Thieves, Coca Cola, Guns of Brixton
Sex Pistols - Belsen Was a Gas, Anarchy UK, Bodies
Dead Kennedys - California Uber Alles, Holiday in Cambodia, Stealing People's Mail, Let's Lynch the Landlord
Replacements - Kids Don't Follow
Screeching Weasel - I Wanna Be a Homosexual, Stab Stab Stab, Celena, Mary Was An Anarchist, Radio Blast
Subhumans - Love is..., Fade Away, Reason For Existence
Suicidal Tendencies- Institutionalized
Minor Threat - In My Eyes, Good Guys Don't Wear White, Minor Threat
Bad Brains - I Against I (Get the version off of the Omega Sessions Disc)
Ramones - Sheena is a Punk Rocker, Teenage Lobotomy, Chinese Rock
X - The World's a Mess Its in My Kiss, Los Angeles, Blue Sparks, Hungry Wolf, Sugar Light
Buzzcocks - Ever Fallen In Love?
Fear - Let's Have a War, Beef Boloney, New York's Alright (If You Like Saxophones)
Gun Club - Ghost On the Highway, Walking With The Beast, Calling Up Thunder
Patti Smith - Ask The Angels, Rock N' Roll N*gg**
Television - See No Evil (borderline. They're more of a rock band that came from the CBGB punk scene, but whose counting?)
All - Hot Rod Lincoln
Rancid - Salvation
Melt Banana - Buzzer #P, Eye-Q Trader
Rapeman - Steak and Black Onions
Social Distortion - Mommy's Little Monster
Offspring - Self Esteem, Gotta Get Away

Institutionalized by Suicidal Tendencies
-------------------------------------------

Sometimes I try to do things, and it just don't turn out the way I wanted to
and I get real frustrated, it's like, I take my time and I try real hard, but
no matter what I do and no matter what I try it never works out, it's like I
concentrate on it real hard, but it never works out, it's like I need some
time to figure these things out, but there's always someone there going:
- Hey Mike, you know, we been noticing you've been having alot of problems
lately, you know, and like maybe you should talk about it, you'd feel alot
better.
And I go:
- No, it's ok, I know I have some problems, I'll figure it out myself, just
leave me alone I'll figure it out.
And they go:
- Why don't you talk about it, you'll feel alot better?
And I go:
- No, I don't want to, just leave me alone, I'll figure it out myself!
And they keep on bugging me and it builds up inside, it builds up inside...

So you're gonna be institutionalized
You'll come out brainwashed with bloodshot eyes
You won't have any say
They'll brainwash you until you see their way

I'm not crazy - institutionalized
You're the one who's crazy - institutionalized
You're driving me crazy - institutionalized

They stuck me in an institution
Said it was the only solution
To give me the needed professional help
To protect me from the enemy, myself

I was sitting in my room, and I was like staring at the walls thinking about
everything but then again I was thinking about nothing, and then my mom came
in and I didn't notice she was there and she calls my name and I didn't hear
her and then she started screaming:
- Mike, Mike!
And I go:
- What, what's the matter?
She goes:
- What's the matter with you?
I say:
- Nothing mom.
She goes:
- Don't tell me nothing, you're on drugs!
I go:
- No mom, I'm not on drugs, I'm ok, I'm just thinking, you know, why don't
you get me a Pepsi?
She goes:
- No, you're on drugs, you're crazy, normal people won't be acting that way!
I go:
- Mom, I'm all right, I'm just thinking, you know, so why don't you, like
give me a Pepsi?
And she goes:
- No, you're crazy!
All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me,
just one Pepsi...

They give you a white shirt with long sleeves
Tied around you're back, you're treated like thieves
Drug you up because they're lazy
It's too much work to help a crazy

I'm not crazy - institutionalized
You're the one who's crazy - institutionalized
You're driving me crazy - institutionalized

They stuck me in an institution
Said it was the only solution
To give me the needed professional help
To protect me from the enemy, myself

I was sitting in my room and my mom and my dad came in and they pulled up a
chair and they sat down, they go:
- Mike, we need to talk to you.
And I said:
- Okay, what's the matter?
They go:
- Well me and your mom, we been noticing lately you've been having alot of
problems, and you haven't been acting like yourself, and we're afraid that
you're going to hurt somebody, and we're afraid that you're gonna hurt
yourself, so we decided that it would be in your best interest if we put
you somewhere where you could get the help that you need...
And I said:
- Wait, what are we talking about?! We decided?! My best interest?! How can
you know, how can you say what my best interest is? What are you trying to
say? I'm crazy? When I went to your schools, I went to your churches, I
went to your institutional learning facilities. So how can you say that I'm
crazy?

They say they're gonna fix my brain
Alleviate my suffering and my pain
But by the time they fix my head
Mentally I'll be dead

I'm not crazy - institutionalized
You're the one who's crazy - institutionalized
You're driving me crazy - institutionalized

They stuck me in an institution
Said it was the only solution
To give me the needed professional help
To protect me from the enemy, myself

It doesn't matter I'll probably get hit by a car anyway.

Fall Out Boy is an amazing Chicago band that writes awesome lyrics. You should check out Spitalfield, another Chicago band that I think is even better than F.O.B.

Yes, these are a bit "smoothed" (aka, a little poppy)to be considered true punk, but it's a step up from the common alternative rock radio stations and shows that new bands are taking a step in the right direction for getting off the bubblegum pop-rock bandwagon.

I will also have to add Taking Back Sunday and Story of the Year...these also probably classify more towards the "emo" category, but emo is a bull**** name for a genre anyways considering all music is generally based from emotions.

Nija, you mentioned Guttermouth, I haven't heard too much of their stuff, but what I have heard, I've enjoyed quite a bit. "Lipstick" stands out in particular as a catchy and hilarious song and I also liked "She's Got the Look" a lot.

a friend of mine turned me on to them. they are hilarious. Lipstick is on Musical Monkey. This is their Website. If you are going to see them. I would highly recommend it. However, I should warn you. If you stand in the front, expect to get spit on. Mark (the singer) spits on the crowd throughout the show. the audience's responsibility, is to spit back on him. So being up front isn't the greatest if you aren't hardcore

I don't disgree of bubble gum "punk", but I still like it.

I actually saw FOB on MTV. I heard some it and ran out and bought it, it's great. It lived in my cd player for months. I will definately check out Spitalfield.

Cursive isn't really emo or punk it's more Indie rock, but I definately like them. I saw The Jealous Sound in concert with them and they were good too. Thursday is pretty good Screamo too althought the last album was a bit dissapointing and more mainstream. Thre rest of the bands you mentioned are unlistenable by my standards (Saves The Day has one song I like and Fall Out Boy which I have not heard.)

Here's my list:

AFI - Everything before Sing the Sorrow, Very Proud of Ya and Black Sails more than others.

Gob - 114, Hear You Calling
- Pop punk done right

Yellowcard - Trembling, Rock Star Land
-Another good pop punk band (Getting some much desrved attention on MTV recently)

The Clash - Guns of Brixton, Lost in the Supermarket...the whole London Calling album

The Misfits - Skulls, Die Die My Darling, Hybrid Moments, Some Kinda Hate

The Ramones - The KKK Took my Baby Away, Howling at the Moon, I Wanna Live, Bonzo Goes to Bitburg

Patti Smith - Rock N Roll ******
- this is a great song Zen!

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - The whole Fever to Tell CD is SO awesome. On top of that Art Star, Miles Away and Modern Things. I've shied away from the CD now that it has gone mainstream but they are amazing.

Anti-Flag - Seattle Was a Riot

TSOL - Code Blue (haha!)

Rancid - Antennas

BTW, just so you guys know, the new Bad Religion album was leaked to the internet this morning. So either use that information or don't use it as it suits you.

OK- so I am an older dude. I saw the Dead Kennedy's at a amall club of about 300 in Colorado in the 70s. Jello Biafra (lead singer) hung out before the show and was wearing an "Osmonds in Concert" t-shirt. My first mosh pit. Two people got broken noses (boots from people diving into the crowd). He actually went to the same high school I did (didn't meet him- he was a couple years ahead of me) before he moved to LA. "Too Drunk to F***" is pretty funny. A lot of the songs he wrote in the early years were about people and places in Boulder- "the Man With the Dogs", "Stealing People's Mail", "Police Truck".

Definately like Clash, Ramones, Black Flag, Stranglers , Social D. Iggy Pop, The Damned.

Check out a movie called "Repo Man" and its soundtrack (includes the Suicidal Tendencies song listed above). It was made in the 80s with Emilio Esteves and Harry Dean Stanton. It's about a punk rocker turned repo man named Otto (like auto- ok?) and a Chevy Malabou with an alien in the trunk. Great dialog. Lines like, "The more you drive, the less intelligent you are." and "Let's go do some crimes. Yeah- let's go get sushi and not pay!" It was just released on DVD in January.

now that yall bring it up, just outta curiosity, i've been wanting to get some opinions on this...

i'm just wondering why people give the so-called emo bands (or, maybe the emo fans moreso) such a hard time. what exactly is so wrong with "emo?" i'll just leave it at that; please discuss...
