hey. i'm no bike snob. there is absolutely no reason to spend 1200 on a bike that you won't beat the crap out of. i like my bikes but don't look down on people that spend less. the only thing i look down on is when people buy bikes from mass merchandisers instead of a bike shop. that is a giant mistake and i'm glad you went to your local bike shop. you won't regret it. you likely will get a year's worth of free tune-ups. that's worth 40 bucks or so.

since you didn't post a picture of your ride, here it is

FREE LIFE-TIME TUNEUPS! THAT'S AWESOME! i went to helen's in westwood to get my bike and they only gave me one year. i took it for a tuneup at a local shop near my parents' home and it was a good $45.

is it good to take a bike to the beach considering all the sand that can get caught along the chain and junk?

No joke. That's the first thing the guy told me. "We have free lifetime tuneups for you. The only thing you'll pay for is if you decide to blow up your tire or something"

For those of you who may be interested in a new bike purchase in SoCal, you can ask for John at:

Cycology

Their tune-ups include a free cleaning and what not. He suggested I basically bring it in whenver I feel there may be something wrong. After all, it's free.
