I like how the movie's visuals don't try to achieve extreme levels of reality but rather stick to an anime-like or TIm Burtonish storybook feel.

Nowadays, most big blockbuster SciFi films are made from hollywood, where obsessions with break-even points have forced movies to be predictable, overly commercial and unsophisticated. On the other hand, Japan, with its faithful animation following/resources and appetite for off beat originality, seems to be the only place left where big budget commercialism can coexist with experimentality, philosophy, and multi-dimensional themes.

If this movie is any good, I see a huge cult following. But then again, I've learned never to judge a movie by its trailer.

That Hi-res trailer for QT was something else. None of the crap artifacts you get on the "Hi-res" trailers from Hollywood.
