I have to say I like the Who remake. I think it's Limp Bizkit, but I'm not sure.

im iffy with 311 remaking The Cure's "Love Song". i love 311, and im a Cure fan, and Love Song is a great song, and i listen a lot to reggae music, but its like all they did was slow down the beat and put a reggae spin on the song. they didnt really do anything. maybe it'll grow on me later, i dunno.

Puff Daddy Remaking The Police's Every Breath You Take into "Ill be Missing You" - i dont like it at all.

Johnny Cash remaking NIN's "HURT" - GENIUS!!! i never thought so much anguish can be interpreted even more melancholically, but the Man in Black did it. amazing.

Alana Davis remaking Ani DiFranco's "32 Flavors" - i love it - the jazzy twist to a folk/acoustic song. though Ani was quoted as saying she hated it. heh!

Vanilla Ice remake of Queen's "Under Pressure" to "ice Ice Baby" - BRREELLEANT!!! (maybe include with it MC Hammer's remake of Rick James "Superfreak" into "U Can't Touch This" )

Frente remaking New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle" into a nice quiet acoustic tune.

Orgy remaking New Order's "Blue Monday" into a GREAT loud razor-edge tune.

U2 remaking Frank Sinatra's "Night And Day" - very haunting, very effective.

DNA remaking Suzanne Vega's acapella song "tom's Diner" into a dance tune - now THAT is just pure brilliance there.

ALL REMAKES BY MICHAEL BOLTON - :

MEgadeth remaking "anarchy in the U.K." by The Sex Pistols - harder, faster, BETTER.

UB40 remaking Sonny and Cher's "I Got U Babe" with Chrissie Hynde - actually pretty good, with the reggae twist.

SRV remaking Jimi's "little Wing" - its like being in the presence of God.

Aztec Camera remaking Van Halen's "Jump" - nice acoustic twist (cant you see me standing there i got my back against the CD machine? )

The White Stripes remake of Burt Bacharach’s "I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself" - genius!

the remake of Marvin Gaye's "Whats Going on" by the "all stars" - sorry, but i think that sucked.

Limp Bizkit remaking George Michael's "Faith" - i didnt like it much, but i thought it was funny!

ok, those are the uhm, FEW songs out of the top of my head.

Viva Las Vegas by The Dead Kennedys (Orig. by Elvis)
He's a Whore by Big Black (Orig. by Cheap Trick)
I Can See Clearly Now by Screeching Weasel (Forget the original artist)
I Fall to Pieces by Screeching Weasel (orig. by Patsy Cline)

Bad Covers -

Agreed. The Clash's cover is still the best. They didn't do too bad with "Police Are Thieves," either.

By far the worst cover ever has to be Mr. Tambourine Man by William Shatner.

Yeah, I'll take the Byrds' version over this one, or Dylan's original, for that matter.

Oh, The Lemonheads' cover of "Mrs. Robinson" was also very good.

I love cover songs. Whenever downloading songs i'm always eager to find one arist's interpreations of anothers' music.

Some of my favorites:

Scarlet Begonias, by Sublime (Grateful Dead)
54-46, Sublime (Toots and the Maytals)
Smooth Criminal, Alien Antfarm (Michael Jackson)
All Along the Watchtower, Dave Mathews (Doesn't touch Jimi though)
Astronomy Domino, Whiskey in a Jar, and Last Caress by Metallica (Oyster Cult, I dunno, Misfits)
While My guitar Gently Weeps, Clapton with Harrison (Beatles)
Gold Dust Woman, Hole (Fleetwood Mac)
Money, The Doors (i dunno)
Baby Please Don't Go: Covered by Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, ACDC, and Led Zeppelin. Don't know who originally did it, but each version is good and unique.
Changes, Tupac (I dunno)
Another one Bites the Dust, Electric Avenue, Roxanne, by Wyclef (Queen, Eddy Grant, and Police)

I believe the original song you're referring to is Michael Jackson - Man in the Mirror

You're right. I meant the intro/background music is from Man in the Mirror. (unless I'm only familiar with a remixed version). The chorus is indeed from the Hornsby song.

Some of my fav's not already mentioned:
Apocolyptica doing a symphonic version of metallica's Master of Puppet's and Fade to Black.
Dope - You Spin Me Round (double qualifies as an 80's cover.)
Ataris - Don Henley's "Boys of Summer" (I don't know why I like this one.)
Megadeth - Sabbath's "Paranoid."
Ugly Kid Joe - Sabbath's "Nativity in Black."
Metallica - Sabbath's "Sabra Cadabra"
Metallica - Diamond Head's "Am I Evil."

What I can't stand: Rappers taking 80's beats and rapping to them. (I think PDiddy pulled this sh*t.)
Doesn't Jessica Simpson or Britney have some awful 80s cover out now?
Metallica's cover of Skynard's "Tuesday's Gone."
Pat Boone's elevator music version of Metallica's Enter Sandman. YES, he did this. A friend found a copy of the CD at a college radio station CD sale. It was 30 cents.

I heard a hard-rock version of Madonna's "Music" the other day -- don't know who sang it though, but it was........ interesting. (Definately not what I expected).
