Kill Bill Volume 2

Jesus, where do I start? I wont give anything away for those fortunate enough to not have seen this film yet. I hated it. I hated it. I hated it. There were even moments, where I reckoned to fall asleep for 5 minutes because nothing worth watching. It pains me to say it's a terrible movie to no end, in part to the fact that I liked Volume 1 so much. I really thought Volume 1 was stand alone work of art. But Volume 2 is a travesty. Nothing more. I hated it. I want nothing to do with it. What did you guys think?

I liked the first one. More action. The second one was talky. I would go see it just to see what the real story is all about. What I didn't like is the freaking score or music or whatever. It's like they purposely set it to "Bust Eardrum" and I don't think it adds to the movie at all if it was set that high for an effect. If it was for effect, then they just overused it.

I enjoyed the movie. It was less action, but I was prepared for that after hearing the reviews so it didn't offend me. I like them both equally for different reasons.

interesting thoughts... i haven't seen it yet, possibly watching it tonight.

critics seem to love part 2, and i'm hearing that they're even saying it's better than part 1. personally, i loved part 1. i watched it again on DVD last night to get pumped up for part 2 and had such a good time.

and as far as the music, i'm surprised to hear that. i've always thought QT was unbelievably good at picking the most perfect music for his movies, including KB part1, so i'm curious to see why you felt that way about part 2. anyway, these are all speculative thoughts, since i have yet to see it, but i'm just surprised to hear that it wasn't as enjoyable as i figured it would be.

I have to agree with Mc when it comes to the music. The person in charge of the Kill Bill tracks is renowned Wu Tang Clan Producer, Rza. The very memorable theme track to Kill Bill is his own creation. However, the music between Kill Bill Volume 1 and Volume 2 is night and day. That in large part helped set the mood for the film, and is responsible for its failure. Freelance, I feel you completely when you speak of setting the mood by watching Volume 1 before catching Volume 2, which is what I did, and I tell you, I minus will have been watching Pokemon, because as far as I'm concerned Volume 2 is not the sequal to Volume 1. It cant be. I wont let it put a blemish on what would otherwise be a classic movie - Kill Bill Volume 1.

I purposely stayed away from reviews and this thread before watching the movie as I wanted my thoughts to be my own. I have to say the movie is great. It adds a different level to the movie (I regard Kill Bill 1 & 2 as one movie). Also, the music fits the movie very well. I don't know how you guys felt it distracted from the movie.

Fox, I don't know why you feel so strongly about it "not being the sequal" and you not "letting it put a blemish" on Vol 1. You have no control over this man. The movie is what it is.

Man... that must've been the "hottest rental" of the weekend... all BBVs in the area were out of it last night and I had to wait until this morning for all the "noon returns" to come in to get a copy...

Sweet movie for under a buck... lots of blood and slicin'.

I just wish that Vivica A. Fox's character coulda lasted a bit longer... that @ss was lookin' mighty nice in their knife fight. Pretty much she got robbed versus the extra exposure Lucy Liu got.

Yup... I'd have to give KBV1 two thumbs up!

Memo, you can't be serious. When you refer to this "this man", Im assuming you mean Quentin. And what Quentin set out to do, was create a montage of an action film compelated of all his childhood favorites. Let me stress that again, this is supposed to be an action film. It's not Reservoir Dogs, it's not Jackie Brown, it's an action film. That means it's carried by the action, not by the character or dialogue, as opposed to his previous works. Volume 1 is the pure essense of what he sought out to do. As you may or may not know, his original intention was for Kill Bill to be one part. It's Miramx who decided to split it. And this is what we get. A sloppy chopped joke of a second part to a movie that would other wise be described as pure genius. You cant sit there and tell me that the music, action, flavor, mood, or anything for that matter, was up to par with the level volume 1 had set. No. Volume 2 sucked. And I want my money back.

finally saw the movie today. the movie definitely has its moments. The music was alright. In fact, I thought there were no major differences between musical styles in vol1 and vol2. But i will say that there needs to be more kung fu fighting!!!

Kill Bill shouldve been one long movie. The split does indeed make the movie kinda "imbalanced." Vol2 is great, just stop comparing it to Vol1.

Did i mention that it needs more kung fu figthing?

I don't question the music choices...but it was ear piercingly loud and sharp. Still a good movie just don't expect mad gushes of blood and long fights scenese like volume 1.

so i saw it last night.

must say, it does have quite a different feel than the first one. the first one felt more playful, more "just for fun." Overall, i wonder what it would have felt like if the two parts actually had been put together as one film. would he have kept it in the same order or switched up the chapters a bit?

in any case, i thought both movies were still very good individually, which is why we told some of my friends who hadn't seen Vol. 1 that it would probably be okay to watch Vol. 2 first (we were all getting together for a friend's birthday yesterday, and he wanted to watch it).

great movie, altho if i had to choose one or the other, i'd have to say as far as pure enjoyment, i liked Vol. 1 better.

You guys are so funny "it didn't have the feel of the first one", or "the music is different".

Man...

THE MOVIES WERE FILMED, PRODUCED, AND MIXED TOGETHER!!!

Its not like Matrix where changes were made between the 1st and 2nd.

Not liking this sequal because it wasn't exactly like the first one is like hating a baby because it isn't exactly like the father. Its a natural progression from one story to the next, but they are actually THE SAME STORY.

I always laughed at people who thought one lord of the rings was better than another, or bitched that FOTR wasn't that great because it left you hanging. No sh!t!

THE movie (not both, not either, but it is ONE movie) was damn good.

ahh, mcs, i just realized that i initially misunderstood your post about the music. someone else i saw the movie with also felt that the music was a tad too loud, but i guess i just didn't notice.

as far as fox's reaction to the music, however, i'll have to disagree. i think some of the individual songs from vol.1 were maybe more memorable, but i think RZA did a great job overall producing the soundtrack for both volumes. a lot of nice little touches that put the icing on the cake.

That guy has to be kidding. To say that we cant decide that one LOTR movie is beter than the other is crazy talk. Pure, bald, crazy talk. Ultimately you'll find that the people will overwhelmingly chose Volume 1 as their favorite regardless of anything you said.

And Free, you're right, RZA did I good job I thought. But his real work lies within Volume 1.

Personally, I just feel that people must form (and are entitled to) their own opinions on a movie.

Some folks just have higher expectations than others... some just wanna be entertained for 2 hours.

and some are just straight up haters.

Q. Tarantino is making his rounds on talk shows on tv and the radio. He comments that both movies were shot over a span of ~150 days, but Vol. 1 was edited/post-produced first, then Vol. 2. Also, he stated that he never tried to "top" or "beat" the fight sequences in Vol 1. Instead of trying to top it, he said he wanted to do something completely different.

ok, i'm a few months late, but i just finally watched KB vols 1 and 2 on back-to-back days.

i thought volume 1 was ok, loved volume 2.

i enjoyed the action in volume 1, but frankly it was a little too graphic for me. i really don't watch that many movies with a ton of violence and blood spraying all over, and i definitely don't have the background in classic kung fu movies, etc to which this movie is an homage. in addition, i thought the "crazy 88" fight scene went on for so long that it started to get boring. however, i liked the way that the various layers of the story were slowly peeled back to get you interested.

volume 2 was amazing, in my opinon. i realize everyone has their own tastes, but i thought the music was perfect for vol. 2. it was good in volume 1, but in vol. 2, the score did an incredible job of setting the scenes and adding to the texture of the movie. i thought the second part was much more lush, with better shots and nice use of black and white at various points.

the real strength of vol. 2 though was the story. i thought that the character development was great and you really started to get inside the heads of the bride, bill, and elle to see what was driving them and why they were behaving the way they did. even though vol. 2 had a longer running time, i thought it flew by on the strength of the story development.

i think the movie would be interesting as one whole, although it broke down into two very workable parts. if tarantino could have trimmed a little fat from it, to get it down to three hours, it would have been a nice single movie.

anyway, i'd highly recommend it, and if you haven't seen it yet, check out the dvd.

I loved this movie, even though it was really slow. I like the pai mei story. And the fight scene with elle driver kicked ass.
