Jeopardy...

Anyone watch this? This one guy has won 10 days in a row. He has 341,000$. This is the most insane thing ever. I usually feel I know more than most jeopardy contestants, but this guy is amazing. He would trounce me. Its pretty impressive to watch.

I always thought they cut you off after like 3 or 5 days winning. What gives?

I watch everyday and now they let them go until they lose so this guy could play for months if he keeps winning

I haven't watched Jeopardy for a while but winning 10 days in a row is impressive.

Is this guy really that smart? Or is he just quick on the button?

I'm voting for the button theory. Granted, he does seem to be full of useless knowledge, but quite frequently i've been able to run 3 or 4 categories myself. I think by doing that and getting some opportune daily doubles is all it really takes. The rest of the suckers are just too slow on the trigger.

Jeopardy! has a new king

AP 2004-06-24 01:58:48

SALT LAKE CITY -- A Utah man is the new Jeopardy! king, having pocketed more than a half-million dollars during a dominating 16-show run on the quiz show. Ken Jennings was seen on his 16th straight episode yesterday, winning once again to bring his total winnings to $512,959 US.

The 30-year-old software engineer broke the Jeopardy! record early in his run.

Tom Walsh, of Washington, D.C., held the previous mark, earning $184,900 in seven days in January.

Then along came Jennings, who is no stranger to the world of quick quiz. He was a member of Brigham Young University's successful College Bowl team in the 1990s. Jennings also edits literature and mythology questions for the National Academic Quiz Tournament.

Jennings' streak may be over but viewers may not realize it.

Episodes featuring him were taped in February and Jennings is back home in Utah and refusing comment.

After the show featured him passing the $250,000 mark last week, Jennings told the Salt Lake Tribune, "It's a little bit like shock -- like you can't believe how fast it goes by."

I saw a better article earlier in the day, but this one has the same basic information.

This guy is scary smart. Unlike most players that know alot about history and literature or pop culture and science, he knows both/all very, very well. Tonights tally was something like $550,000

He is a hardcore mormon, so my guess is the ghost of Joe Smith and Brigham Young are secretly whispering the answers to him direct from the Lord Himself.

wow....this guy is crazy, so I was wondering, I think he gets taxed on his wins right?

does he get taxed once per amount he wins or tax on everything?

I suspect he gets taxed after each win (though the tax is just removed from the prize money). That way, after he loses or they kick him off, he owes no taxes. And yeah there used to be a 5-day rule, now there's not. The previous record was 7 wins I think, he's run it to at least 16 apparently. He was on the winning College Bowl team (?) years ago if that means anything.

Anybody here know how to compete to get on Jeopardy? I'd love to try it some day. Plus, if I won even one day, I'd have enough cash for a computer that wasn't built before Y2k.

Last night was one of the few times he actually faced stiff competition from another contestant (Michael, I believe his name was). After coming within a second of losing $11,000 on a true Daily Double, he came up with an answer that just happened to be correct (honestly, I think he was surprised himself that it was the right one). Even at the end of Final Jeopardy, Ken had won only $4000 more than Michael (both were in the $40,000's).

I wonder how long Ken will keep winning.

If Michael had only come up with a few more answers...That was pretty dang close. Sucks that Jeopardy isn't actually live though, this guy must be a crazy celebrity in Utah right now.

I usually get about half the answers on average. But my range is anywhere from 5% to 90% depending on the topics. Everyone always tells me to go on the show, but i feel since its a one time chance, i'd rather wait later in life when i know more stuff.

I believe so. They also have other rules too, like if you've been on another game show within the last year, they won't let you on.

I always heard, that if you go on to a game show (like are a participant) you can't go on another one for 7 years. I don't know how true that is, but that's what I've heard

what is ...WOW!

also, to my knowledge, you may participate in 3 game shows per year...

and being in the audience of the price is right counts as one.

I've always considered myself superior to the average Jeopardy contestant, but this guy makes me feel in adequate. He knows everything I know, plus some, plus faster. Its too bad I'm not too old for 'college jeopardy,' those Ivy Leaguers couldnt touch me. Ah, I'll wait until I'm 45 or so and then do jeopardy so I stand a chance of going 3 days or more.

I've started watching Jeopardy after some 4-5 years of not watching it just to catch and see how good Ken really is, and he REALLY is good. There have been some close ones recently, but I'm impressed at how much he knows...impressed, and scared
