It's been over since the Pistons went up 10. Ben Wallace is unstoppable tonight. I think Chauncey still gets MVP, though...maybe Rip.

Talk about just quitting on a game. I guess the Lakers knew it was over

They were beat before they stepped on the court tonight...I wouldn't be surprised to hear about a fistfight in the Lakers locker room after the game.

I think Chauncey will be MVP but I really feel that Ben Wallace deserves it for being the heart and soul of the Pistons "D".

The Flakers usually just gave up and two years in the row, they got blew out in the elimination game (18 by the Spurs and 13 by the Pistons).

BTW the game should not even be this close.

oh yeah!!!! oh YEEAAAHHHH!!!!!

big ben totally should have been the MVP. he is the heart and soul of the team. he's the cornerstone of the defense, and the emotional leader. but of course, the voters love gaudy scoring numbers. it's not that chauncy didn't have a great series (the mismatch between him and the LA PGs was a huge detroit advantage that i identified before the series, and he took major advantage), it's just that i think ben wallace was more important to the team.

I think Ben Wallace's contributions can't even be quantified. Teams are forced to change their style of play with him roaming the middle. If you insist on driving the lane for finger rolls and jump hooks, you end up with a game like that one between Indy and Detroit that featured like 20 blocks, most of them by the Pistons. He often matches up with taller players, but his strength and tenacity/energy allow him to match up favorably. He does indeed exemplify the hard-working team's defensive emphasis, and that's what took this team all the way.

Ben's biggest threat to any team is the fact that he is athletic. You look at the Lakers team and tell me which big man was as athletic as Ben Wallace. Karl Malone a decade ago probably would have matched up very well. Slav, hell no. Brian Cook, no. Shaq if he lost 30 pounds and was 7 years younger perhaps. Kobe is the most athletic player on that team by far, but he can't match up with Ben's size. His size and athleticism were clearly dominant against the Lakers. At least in Indiana they had a guy like Jermaine O'Neal who could keep up for the most part. Lakers on the other hand had no answer.

Jermaine was hurt as well... so he couldn't keep up. But such is the "playoffs".
