Anyone here play Ultimate?

Just curious. Merlin and I used to play a lot in college when we were at Loyola and I used to be a regular at UCLA on the weekends. After my last knee surgery I couldn't play very long before my knee would start swelling up from all the running. Now that I'm in better shape and my knee isn't bugging me much I've been getting back into it at the Hermosa Beach pick-up game on Sundays.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go here: www.upa.org

If you live in So. Cal and were wondering if there was a site dedicated to ultimate, go here: www.laout.org or here for OC :http://members.cox.net/ocultimate/

EDIT: SD people have their own site: http://www.sdultimate.com/

Yes! I used to play as a high schooler, and now that my dorm is right by a huge quad where it's PERFECT for ultimate, my friends and I play all the time. I've never been the one to be able to do long tosses, but I've always been good at grabbing/intercepting them.

I'm not in the team though, my school's team here is more like a cult than anything else.

Man, I love ultimate. I used to play in high school all the time. I haven't been able to find too many people here in Irvine that play though.

I never found anyone outside of stoned hippies to play Ultimate with in college, but I used to love the game in high school. Supposedly there's a group around here that plays, but I haven't seen them out anywhere yet.

Thanks for the website. Thats pretty good information. I actually work next door to the terradyne people who go out and play at lunch. I will probably try to hook up with them. I played a lot in college, but its hard to get people together now with work, and kids and family stuff going on with all those other people... Guess i need to stop being single and go down and buy a family one of these days...

A good kid will run you about $10k on the black market. Of course, if you buy one with behavior problems and fix em up yourself, you can probably walk away with one for $2500. As for wives, you're gonna want to check out www.russiasugliestmailorderbrides.com. Lots of great deals on that site!

I used to in college (not on t team, but for fun) before I got fat...or lazy...or some combination of both....

I did join the RI summer league (if you live in MA or RI, join RIPUL http://www.cs.brown.edu/~lsh/ripul/, it's a lot of fun). The league forced everyone to play man on man for 2 weeks, then afterwards let every team do whatever they wanted. I learned tons about cups (no, not protective cups, the defense) and various zones. That was really fun.

At the games I show up for in So. Cal, about 97% of the people there are the athletic college-educated professionals. The only hippie-like team that I know of is the Pomona-Pitzer Braineaters team. They always did this little brain-dance before every game with their team-mascot - an actual brain they brought with them in a jar of formaldehyde. Their uniforms at the time consisted of a green-tie-dye shirt, red plaid shorts, and blue paisley bandanas (you couldn't mistake them for anyone else that's for sure). At one tournament we were playing them and they weren't doing well until they started taking bong hits on the sideline. After that they got MUCH better, which is fascinating since it is a depressant and doesn't help athletic performance?

We played this for PT in ROTC. It got violent at times. One of the last times I played, I took a frisbee across the face and had a red mark across my eyes for a little while.

I'm not sure what else you could do with a frisbee, but I'll leave that to your imagination.

I was running up to guard a guy and when i was abour 5 feet out, he let one fly in my face, and drove my glasses fram into my nose. I had to pull them out and oh my, thats a lot of blood. It burned but i was ok. The poor kid ran away peeing in his pants cause he was a foot shorter then i was and though he was gonna get a beatin.

Kevster, What games do you go to? I am trying to figure out which ones i can make but it would be cool to hang with fellow apexers...

Ialsohaveadream.. Do you have any experience on these russian brides? I haven't found anna kournikova yet... But i would probably more want a rental then full on ownership.
