Question about this year's VMA
So I'm reading this yahoo article about this year's VMA and how they are thinking about toning it down and adding a video delay to the broadcast. In the article it said that, "there's talk of using a video delay for the first time on the live broadcast (it's had an audio delay for years). " Now my question is how can you have an audio delay without a video delay? Won't the video and audio be out of synch?

Sorry to go OT on your thread, but when I worked at Nickelodeon, the exec producer told me that they didn't have any kind of delay, so if a kid dropped an F bomb after he won a prize, it'd go out on the air.
Never happened, though. They might have bought one by now, though. This was 3 years ago. |

They're compelled to time delay it now; after the legislation that fines networks for airing profanities and the whole Super Bowl episode, no smart network will air anything unpredictable live. As far as delaying the audio and not the video... I don't know how that would work. That would put it out of synch, so I have to think that's wrong.

I was thinking maaaybe, they broadcast it over the radio and that's what the audio delay was referring to? I doubt it though.
Or maybe when they say audio delay, they mean that between the time the action happens and the time it airs on TV, there is a little guy sitting with his hand on the BEEP button ready to block out any profanity - but they're not set up to edit the video at all. Perhaps now, in addition to the BEEP (audio) button, they have a BLUR (video) button, or some other such effect that will stop people from being able to flash the TV audience.

if i was on those controls, id just start hitting the BEEP button at random, and also BLUR even the most covered parts, just to make people wonder what they said, or what was blurred. ![]()
