Father of the Pride - a gem among comedies

This show just killed me! I knew beforehand that it was an adult comedy. But good golly, I laughed the whole time. I highly recommend it. But NOT around kids!

You know what. I was very skeptical after I saw the previews during the Upfronts a few months back...but after Jenny said it was hilarious, I went to watch my taping of it and I have to agree that it was some sick twisted humor, but it did make me laugh. It wasn't as good as Seinfeld (which happens to be one of my favorite shows), but it certainly had its moments. Hopefully for my employer's sake, this show makes it to a 2nd season.

really? i for one didn't find it entertaining at all. in fact, it was kinda hard to sit through. i'll give it a couple more chances before i completely blow it off.

Damn I missed it. It's made by Dreamworks right?

The show production time is way too long. Unless they have lots of shows already made, a few season's worth, this show will never make it as it is. IMHO.

how do you know the production time? they are really good at this stuff. It's not like it's movie quality animation.

.....The show will air between NBC's hit reality show Last Comic Standing and Scrubs, which is something the creative team is very excited about considering it takes 9 months to complete a single episode. Groff also explained that their entire 13 episode first season is equivalent to completing 6 animated feature films.

Somehow I'm seriously doubting that. It was either taken out of context or something...

Let's hope not for their sake.

Does anyone know how many episodes constitutes a season?

I think people will like the show, don't get me wrong. Unfortunately I think demand will be high making for more reruns of the show, and slowly boring people because there are not enough episodes.

The initial order of Father of the Pride was 13 episodes. For 30-minute shows, the lowest a season will ever be is 6 episodes.

Nobody said they didn't have multiple teams working on an episode at a time. The voice-overs could probably be done in a matter of days, but I'm guessing the 13 episodes were created by different teams all at once, therefore cutting your 9 years and 9 months to maybe a year or two.

Yeah. I have to agree with Ray and Roni on that. Assume that they have to render every single frame for EVERY SINGLE episode. That's a lot. 30 minutes of this show is no different than doing 30 minutes of Finding Nemo, and it took like 3 years to do Finding Nemo. They can reuse portions, but still they can't reuse everything.

I'm betting that it takes a tremendous amount of resources to do a sitcom all in CG.

I watched it and it was okay-ish. It's a good first start but it needs to pick up some steam. I give it a B-/C+.
