Paparazzi

Steph and I went to see it tonight, GREAT movie. Gives a nice (yet probably a bit dramatized) view into the stalkarazzi lifestyle.

Wow, it's out?

It was the top new movie this weekend, but 4th overall. Four new movies came out: Paparazzi, Wicker Park, Vanity Fair, The Cookout, and they placed relatively in that order, all earning between 6-7 million each. Sucks to see a seemingly good movie get caught up in a deluge of movies.

i'm wondering if i'll be able to enjoy it. i saw the preview, and thought: "all the celebrities must LOVE this move, and be cheering on the guy who takes his revenge", but i'm not sure if i can really appreciate it. i'm the gal who likes to read People mag, not the famous celeb being stalked and hunted by paparazzi. no way of relating at all.

Now, I don't get all weepy when a star complains about the paparazzi, but it does concern me that they go pretty far to get whatever they want. The fact that somebody can continually harass you and NOT get in trouble is stupid.

Tom Sizemore had a good line. "People want to eat their steak but they don't want to meet the butcher" (paraphrased).

Steph used to buy people and then we started talking about Princess Diana and other such cases and she stopped buying it.

Celebs put their pants on the same way as you or I, why bother them so much?

IMO, it comes with the territory. The only reason stars get paid what they do is because people are so crazy about them. If there was not as much demand for paparazzi stuff as there is, the "stars" would make diddly, like the rest of us. Anyone who doesn't want that happening to them can give the money back and leave Hollywood forever. Any stars that complain that they can't live private lives can cry me a river. They sold it for 15 mil a movie.

I'm really surprised that you liked it because it got some of the worst ratings possible from Rotten Tomatoes. I was thinking of seeing it last night but declined because of them. I think I'll just wait for it to come out on DVD.

See, I think this is the pervasive attitude that causes so many problems. Yes, they are celebs. Yes, they *should* get some more light shed onto them. However, when they have NO peace during their whole lives, when people dig through their trash, invade their vacations, stalk them, taunt them, and try to do anything they can to get a little bit of dirt, then they have gone WAY to far.

People think that stars are somehow some sort of uber-human. Yet, its the people who need to feel some sort of connection to these people that make the paparazzi do what they do. The morbid fascination with the dirt, the rumors, the "cellulite" photo's. They are just human, not perfect, but flawed like everybody else.

Does this mean that we should NEVER give them rest? Does this mean that they are now susceptible to anything some crazed moron wants? Please.

A red flag went up for me when I saw the directors previous credits were when he was the head hairdresser for films. Thats probably better qualification than some people have to direct, but its still pretty questionable.

I see this as another step in the direction of paranoia and uncontrolled rage and sickness by Mel.

My point is, however, that the very attitude you are talking is 90% of the reason why they ARE stars. If people weren't so rabid for them, they wouldn't be stars, make the same money, get laid anytime they want, get uber perks, etc. They would also not be hounded every minute of their lives.

These people are paid thousands of times more than ordinary people for a profession that is non-essential. They are paid hundreds of times more than doctors, and why is that? Because people are crazy about them.

Like I said, it comes with the territory. I don't agree that's the way it should be, but that's the reality, and if they can't live with it, then get out.
