So what happened now? Or is this just an "expression of oneself" thread?

The Benefactor is coming out soon so I have been seeing a lot of him lately. Definitely an expression of oneself thread, but I thought I would throw it out there to see if some of you guys thought he was alright and why.

i think he is an awesome guy.

He was able to single-handedly turn a dismal franchise into a powerhouse. He is also a big fan of the team that he owns, so (to me, imo) he genuinely cares about his team and his fans, and not just money. Yet at the same time, he is a very shrewd and cunning business man but he uses that "talent" for the good of the Dallas b-ball fans.

he's no Al Davis, and he's no Don Sterling. and thats good.

Hey stop talking trash about my team's owner (Sterling).

I hate Sterling and what he did the Clippers.

I'd love him to own my underperforming teams (Mets, Knicks, Rangers).

He is a good business man. he sold some decent ideas for heavy money and got out before he became to committed to be open to change and or sale of his ideas. He has turned the mavs around and has increased league awareness in international players. He has promoted his team and the nba and is very honest about his feelings with the shortcomings he sees in the league.
he is a bit of a loud mouth and obnoxious. He feels its his right to go on and on about how bad the officials are. I realize that they make mistakes and fans are allowed to boo, but to stand up in the front row and to yell at a ref so he can't try to make the next call is not a good answer. He always says whats on his mind without much tact which definitely makes a lot of people not appreciate some of the very intelligent things he has to say.
That all being said, i think hes a smart person and a good business man, but i wish he would act with a little more patience at the games because i feel it shows a lack of sportsmanship in which i think the nba and all sports leagues should promote.

He saw an opportunity open with the internet boom, got an idea together and made it happen, and convinced a buyer to pick him up for far more value than his company was probably worth. Sounds like a good businessman to me.

i guess. i suppose i'm separating being savvy, opportunistic, and creative from being a a good manager, managing growth through a business cycle, and dealing with the financial aspects of a business.

btw, i don't know if he lacks the aforementioned skills. i'm just of the opinion that he capitalized on a market that was way out of whack.

Alot of other people became billionaires or close to it because of the runaway tech sector. The measure now is to see how he manages his billion dollars in this more reasonable climate. If he gets up their with the Gates' and the Buffets', then we'll know.

He also made a lot of money off of chain letters.. what a great business man Most of his business deals have screwed the buyers. Perhaps the buyers should have been smarter, but that still doesn't make it right.

Can you give examples of this chain letter thing? And some of his business deals?

The chain letter story is all over the net.. it is how he paid for part of school:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Cuban

I have (in the past) read details on the MicroSolutions deal and the broadcast.com deal that there were some very shady circumstances. I know broadcast.com hadn't turned a profit when he sold it to Yahoo and is now a small development shop. He made comments after the sale that hurt broadcast.com and yahoo.com. Not that I am pro-riaa, but he was purposely falsifying information to riaa and in his books making the company look more lucrative than it was.

(I did a quick search for the stories, but I'm not finding them. They are really old stories and everything google finds is not available anymore)

Personally I don't like him. But in some ways I have to give him props. He's able to sell his ideas at a premium price. Good for him.

As for his no-defense dallas mavs? All pop, no stop... that's going to be their season's story.
