Just watched Return of the King extended

Anyone else see this yet?

I thought the additional footage was ok for the most part, but most of the extra stuff really needed MORE added to it to be of any value. (Gandalf vs. Lord of the Nazgul.)

I did REALLY liked the scene with the mouth of Sauron. I thought they did a great job with that, but I don't want to give any spoilers.

After watching through all 4 hrs or so of it, it really didn't seem like they added that much.

What did everyone else think?

I think some of the scenes that were added were very important. The whole ordeal with Saruman was extremely important, and the Gandalf vs. the Lord was important as well. Still, the most important additions came in the first movie

I got the DVD as a Christmas present and just watched it a couple of days ago. As with the others the addes footage fills in the movie quite nicely.

i like the additions the way it changes the flow of the story - even tho it's only a slight change

i thought i heard there was supposed to be a final release after this - with EVEN MORE unreleased material

The Gandalf vs Witchking was BS. The Nazgul riders would never approach the city because of the archers. I think that it really downplays Gandalf's powers (shattered staff), which were overpowered by a mere turned witch king.

I thought that was a little BS myself. It really did downplay the power of Gandalf vs. the Nine.

I think overall the additions fit quite nicely. Some of them were so transparent you didn't really notice them unless you looked at the guide to see if something was added or not.

I saw one interview with Jackson where he said he might considering doing one long version with all three intertwined and perhaps some more footage that was left out included- ala the Godfather which had a version on video (I haven't seen it on DVD) where they took all three movies and put them together in one set in chronlolgical order so it doesn't jump all over the place timewise. He said maybe in a couple of years, after King Kong is out of the way. No way to know if he was serious or not. He also said he may consider making the Hobbit too.

As far as this version, I was not as impressed when I saw it in the theater, but the Extended Edition was an excellent version. There were still a couple of things that could have been left out, but the story was so much better with the extra footage in it. Like Kevster says, there were parts that unless you looked at the list of extended scenes, you didn't realize they were longer. I think they helped it flow better. After the first two, I never even considered getting the Theatrical Version of this one. I was surprised that they waited until only ten days before Christmas to release it though. Would have helped their holiday sales.

Two thumbs up on Return of the King, Extended Version!

Most of the new stuff in the extended editions didn't really need to be in the cinematic version (with maybe an exception to the sauramon scene). All the new stuff is for us LOTR fanatics who love any new LOTR stuff.

i watched return of the king at an imax. it was really awesome until the end...dragging that on, and aauugghh! then, my dad got the extended version, and as a joke he told me the majority of the 50 min add on was at the end haha. the thing i hated about watching the extendeds with my family was that everyone kept saying"OOH thats new!"
and we're all like "we know...."

Ha ha ha! We do that too!

I really love all the extendeds. It really does make the story flow so much better. I also hope Jackson makes the Hobbit. I'd love to see that one.

I can't wait to see this next weekend (going to a friend's to watch the trilogy -- all extended versions).

It's actually pretty funny, since I passed on seeing the original theatrical release once I found out that so much was being added to the extended version.

All in one sitting? That will be about 12 hours not including potty breaks! Should be fun though!

I think there were some scenes that definitely made sense to leave out. However, it did have some very important scenes which were important to the story. Overall, great job.

Well, it turns out we kinda cheated. We basically watched the second half of The Two Towers as a refresher (I hadn't seen the other films in over a year), and then watched Return of the King.

All I can say is that I'm somewhat glad I intentionally waited for the extended edition. With my friends indicating which parts were new (not actually saying "this is new" but doing so in a way I could tell anyways -- and didn't mind), I feel the movie just needed those points.

I did comment on the drawn-out ending though. It was a little too long for my liking (despite covering a lot of ground that needed to be covered).

....and of course we watched the Easter Eggs. Funny stuff indeed.

Yes, the ending was definately one place he did not need to make any longer.
