Why it sucks to watch football on Fox

Though their coverage is excellent and Joe Buck is a good play by play, I'm entirely sick of the disgusting shilling they do to their shows. Today, it's 24.

Then again ESPN shamelessly shilled 3 and Tilt. CBS had commercials for their shows, but didn't use the football guys (in game or studio) to shill their crap (at least not as much).

Gah...they all suck

I think the most annoying is CBS, mostly because of their pre/post/halftime shows. They try so very, very hard to be like Fox, and it makes me cringe.

It's sort of like how ESPN tries to imitate TNT's halftime show...but Barkley, Kenny, and EJ make that happen because of the way they interact. You can't just force it. CBS tried using Deion, Shannon Sharpe, anyone they can get that will seem loud, semi-confrontational, and interesting, and it's painfully obvious they're trying to make a Fox clone. If the personalities you've got don't work that way, why not just do your own thing? Dan Marino will never be Terry Bradshaw.

I don't find CBS annoying at all, but mostly I know their shows suck. There's no chemistry, they're all too stiff, and just plain boring. ESPN countdown is the best by far.

The whole point though is that they're all just shilling their crap way too much these days...

i don't think fox is any more extreme than any of the other networks. i don't know how many times during indy/denver we had to hear about the cbs sunday night lineup, including the people's choice awards hosted by jason alexander and some dude with really long braids. yesterday, abc was flogging all their shows.

it's just business, i guess.

Ehh, they pay their millions, they are entitled to pimp their crappy shows.

I know this as a Cards fan. They can put not one single butt in a seat in the stadium and still be profitable b/c of TV. The NFL is a great product, and the networks will use NFL broadcasts to hype their shows. Just the way it is.

Fox NFL shows are hell a lot better than CBS. I'm glad that they are doing the SB this year.

Agreed. CBS = The CSI network.

CSIx3, without a trace, Navy NCIS, and there are two more I heard about...

What really gets on my nerves is when a commentator is clearly biased toward one team or one player, and it leaks out all over the place. During the bowl games...there were a handful of anti-PAC10 commentators.

Fox is definately the sports channel. ABC (the stupid reality TV network) is close, with their ESPN commentators, but FOX is still better.

Fox has spent a ton of money on sports programing for two main reasons. First was to try and give the network legitimacy- until then, their big products were the Simpsons and Beverly Hills 90210. Second was to promote their shows like the other networks always have done. They have come a long way since the sponsored the XFL.

I personally hate MNF b/c of Madden. Dennis Miller should still be doing MNF. And if you don't like Dennis then please just agree with me to remove Madden. I am so sick of his commentator abilities or lack of.

I am a big ESPN fan, but man I can't stand them with their excessive promos leading up to a show such as 3 or TILT. What is even worse is falling asleep to espn with sportscenter on and hearing it in the background all night about "The Matador"

i strongly disagree. a couple years ago, madden seemed to be over the hill. he was rambling, not paying attention to the game, missing details, screwing up names, etc. but this past year, and even last year, he's been much better. he's back to being extremely astute, noticing he little details that make such a big difference but which most of the commentators without his football IQ completely miss.

ugh madden.. he just keeps saying the same things in Maddeon 2005! lol. And then i watch monday night football and its the same thing!
I don't really mind them. I despise pretty much all of Fox. They try to be all flashy with cool graphics, so annoying. Their half-time show is allright, half because they act like idiots most of the time heh.

I really really reallllly hate fox for baseball though, worst ever.

Dennis Miller should NOT be doing any sort of sports commentary. Period. (well, maybe golf). but that guy would go on the most randomest tangents, 90% of which had NOTHING to do with the current game.

Madden back in the 80s was alright... you actually learned some things from his "chalk talk". but yea, now its just..."BOOM!!!......BOOM!!!"

the best MNF lineup (i think) is the three... Al Michaels, Dan Dierdorf (sp) and Frank Gifford.

I don't think we have been watching the same MNF then..... He still makes major mistakes and is aloof of what is happening on the field.

That is why I liked him b/c he filled the holes with off the wall, random, obscure, intelligent humor. Now I forced to hit mute b/c of the non-intellignet blather that comes out of Madden's mouth. 90% of the time Miller's comments might not have had anything to do with the game but then again 90% of Madden's comments are idiotic or incorrect........or both.

The most annoying thing about watching football on Fox is the fact that their music bumpers sound like the middle part of "Sleighride." ("Giddy-up, giddy-up, giddy-up, let's go...")
