New shows: Iron Chef America and Battlestar Galactica

So, in the midst of my World of Warcraft addiction, I managed to see two new shows.

Iron Chef America: A remake of the show that put food tv on the map, I hope they retool this show and fast. Though the chefs and the cooking is outstanding, everything else needs help. Alton Brown's commentating is ok, but the floor reporter is an ass. The judges are stupid idiots, and AB forcing questions on them is a pain to watch. The "chairman" is a complete fool and just needs to be removed from the show. I liked how in the japanese version the commentator and the judges essentially interacted normally. In this version, it's strained.

Battlestar Galactica: Another remake. This one, though, is excellent. It has very high production values and some seriously good acting. My complaints may be something that was in the original BG and part of the BG story line, so let me know. But the whole show makes me feel uncomfortable. Star trek always put me at ease over the storylines, environment, and ship. In BG, it's all unnerving, but that may be the point. In any case, I'm curious and it's on my tivo.

ICA was cool. I liked it. I can't believe Flay won by 1 point and it was on plating. Not that the plating didn't look great, I guess he had to win somewhere. I can't wait for the rest especially Flay vs. Tsai. Tsai is one of my companies spokesperson. Does anyone know where it is being filmed? If its here in LA I want to go.

Jan 16 Bobby Flay vs. Rick Bayless
Jan 23 Mario Batali vs. Roberto Trevino
Jan 30 Bobby Flay vs. Ming Tsai
Feb 6 Battle of the Masters
Feb 13 Mario Batali vs. Michael Laiskonis
Feb 20 Masaharu Morimoto vs. Rob Feenie
Feb 27 Bobby Flay vs. Govind Armstrong
Mar 6 Masaharu Morimoto vs. Roberto Donna
Mar 20 Mario Batali vs. Scott Campbell
Mar 27 Battle of the Masters

The new series is a real winner in my book. I have seen the episodes up to #10 and I'm definitely hooked. The writing & acting are far better than I initially expected. The extensive character development has been refreshing too.

Compared to other sci-fi series that have come out recently, this darker Battlestar Galactica is far more entertaining. I like the fact that the production staff and actors really give a damn and are trying to do this right because it shows. Yes Enterprise, I'm looking at you.

I think we need this smiley:

battlestar galactica...

i saw the movie premier thing late last week and i was very impressed. i couldn't really understand if it was just a remake or if it's a continuation or what but i really liked it. storyline is very gripping, in my opinion.

plus, there's a young korean actress who's decent looking AND can act..kind of.

normally? that Japanese version was wrought with hilarious translation to English. That is part of why I loved the show. And the Chairman in the Japanese version was a fool too. I have yet to see the American version, but I think the Japanese version was pretty silly, but really cool at the same time.

I'm still not totally feelin' the new Battlestar Galactica...

Yeah.. they say it is a "Space Drama"... but I like a lil more "Action" than what they have served up so far...

Pretty much to me... the best "Space Drama" to date was "Space Above and Beyond"... that show basically hooked ya and kept you hooked with a good mix of drama and action.

It has to be better than the one with Will Shatner as the Chairman.....

oh heads up, if you want the Iron Chef America Battle of the Masters, Foodtv.com is selling them for 19.95 for all the battles...... just thought I'd pass that on for those interested.

Keep on it, there are a few Space Above type episodes that are really good.

Speaking of Battlestar Galactica, if anybody would like a DVD copy of the Mini-Series that aired in 2004 please PM me. You pay shipping and that's it. And yes, it's a legal copy.
