Shrek the Third

The movie was pretty much as expected but it wasn't nearly as good as the first two Shrek films. Plenty of giggles and a lot of jokes that only adults will get. Perfect for the kids. I give it a solid B.

I went in with low expectations - they were met. Donkey and Kitty totally stole the show (as always) and the cookie was a riot this time around. And whoever wrote the minute long routine of Pinocchio NOT lying? Hilarious!

I wasn't sure what to expect. I found several scenes long and drawn out and slow. (But the Pinocchio scene and a few others were pretty good.) Overall, just not enough entertainment for me. I'd only give it a B- --better watched on a DVD rental.

And I certainly see opportunities for a Shrek 4 there...we'll see how that turns out.

Just got back from the "Mr. Brooks" premier. I liked it, I liked it alot!! I'll give it an A- . It was weird seeing Dane Cook in a serious role though, but he did a good job, kinda like Ashton Hutcher's job in The Butterfly Effect. Come to think of it, they'll probably be hanging out together, now that Demi was the cop/investigator in this movie. I don't want to spoil the film for anyone who didn't get to see it tonight, but it's definitely worth the full ticker price if you ask me!!

Shrek The Third - B

I thought the first half was great. Then when they went to find Artie it just went down hill from there. The last half was just ok . I liked the ending from Shrek 2...that seemed longer and more exciting. This one was too short and simple.

Pirates Of The Carribean: At World's End

Hmmm....Strong B+...Weak A-. I like the first one better. The acting seems to be the same level...maybe a little weaker. The sword play scenes don't last as long...or they do but aren't as...hmmm...elaborate? The twists aren't as I guess twisty or elaborate. They're there but nothing that makes me go...ahhh...good one. Still the action was good and the pace of the movie was enjoyable for a 2.5 hour plus movie.

Curious to know more.
I found Barrymore's acting to be weak and the storyline somewhat scattered as they tried to make it about poker one time then about the relationship between him and Barrymore that never really happened and the poker stuff was somewhat predicatable or missing (like he plays poker at all the beginner tables to grab money and work his way up to the bigger tables, but they never really show muich of this--they just let you assume that he whupped 'em good.)

They also tried to look into the other better players' minds a bit but it was too shallow. More analysis of who they were and how they got there would have been interesting.
The only interesting part was between him and his father.

Thumbs up Ratatouille

Just came back from the sneak preview. Loved the movie. It really shows that Pixar has learned a lot from previous movies.

The way the hair moves, animated water, light effects, wet hair and clothes, everything was amazingly WOW.

I did not expect to enjoy this movie so much. Outstanding storytelling and animation.

Go with the whole family on this one. A+

ps: The beginning movie short was hilarious.

Evan Almighty

This is a heart-warming tale of a news broadcaster who is elected as a congressman and has to move his family to DC. He prays to be able to keep spending quality time with his family and God assigns him the task of building an ark because of an upcoming flood.
He must figure out how to balance hsi new Congress job with the time-limit of this task assigned by the big guy, who "encourages" him with things like an eternal beard and pairs of animals following him around.

The movie had a good storyline, pretty decent acting, excellent graphics and lots of bits of fun dialog. Almost a top-quality film, and fun for the whole family. I give it an A-

Aslo saw Evan Almighty on Tuesday. I agree with Dog and give it two thumbs up A- .I really liked all of the bird scenes.(Kind of what I do for a living! lol) Hard to tell what scenes were real and what were cgi, because I can't see all of those different species being next to each other no matter how well trained they are. Good stuff.

Wednesday went to the You Kill Me preview. It was better than I expected, pretty funny scenes and who doesn't like Luke Wilson? I give it a B+ .

If you guys saw Bruce Almighty before, how would you rate the sequel in comparison? I enjoyed Bruce Almighty, but am not too sure on this one.

Just saw Silver Surfer tonight with a couple of fan boys. Fun fluff, but Jessica Miss Blue Eyes was a dead duck whenever she was on the screen. The surfer was kickass and the whole issue with Johnny was a nice aside. B.
Also - if you haven't seen it - you must see the Korean movie: The Host. Absolute riot on every level. Read only one review if you must, but see this film.

Ratatouille

What an amazingly fantastic movie! Great storyline and just when you think animation cannot get more advanced a beautiful movie like this comes along. The hair on the rats looked so real and the water in the drainpipe ride scene was breathtaking. The story was heart wrenching and kept me interested. The movie is almost a full two hours but time flew by.

Everyone go see this movie! A+++++++++++

I agree with Trigun, the beginning short film was laugh out loud funny.

THE PREMIERE OF "TRANSFORMERS" WAS PRETTY ACTION-PACKED...NEARLY NON-STOP.
ALSO VERY HUMOROUS THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE. THE CARS ARE HOT, THE MACHINES ARE BITCHIN'.
DO NOT LEAVE YOUR SEAT!!!
THE STORYLINE IS NEARLY LOST AMONGST THE ACTION FOR A WHILE,
BUT IT IS LEFT OPEN FOR A SEQUEL!!!!!!

I agree with Transformers -- awesome movie. Yes, there was a bit of romance, but it wasn't overdone by any means (in other words, it's not the main storyline).

If you want edge-of-your-seat action, you've got it -- if you want a believable and compelling story, well you've got that too. Kickass film -- A+ rating from me.

(I generally rate a film A+ if I'd be willing to walk out of the movie and right back into the line to buy another ticket for the following show).

Michael Bay is good at making blow-it-up entertaining movies. Cite: 48 minute attack scene in Pearl Harbor. Bay's main weakness...trying to involve some kind of romantic side plot. Thankfully he didn't screw Transformers up like he did Pearl Harbor (imagine if Pearl Harbor ended up being a modernized version of Tora Tora Tora...that would have been amazing). Two thumbs up for Transformers and I plan on seeing it again.

I would say that Evan Almighty is not quite on par with Bruce almighty. It was a bit tamer (more geared toward general audience) but still came off pretty well. A few goofy parts, so not going to be an all-time top-rated film, but definitely worth at least a rental and probably a matinee.

Saw 'LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD', & give it an A-.
Bruce Willis is back as John McCLane, with an unwitting computer/techno savvy 'sidekick'. It is action & special effects packed, with the usual touch of Willis' sardonic humor.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Saw the new Harry Potter last night. I thought this one was not quite as good as the previous HP movies. I liked that the story got much darker as Harry struggles with his "evil side." But the plot line moved slowly at times.

The movie is long (well over 2 hours) and there are some dark and scary scenes. Leave the little kids at home. Special effects are fantastic and Professor Umbrage was brilliant.

I give it a B-. I'd pay to see it in the theater only for the action scenes.

Plus, Harry Potter looked like he was going on 30! He's starting to look kind of funny with his bulging muscles and his round glasses.

Wink Fantastic 4 & Shrek 3

Boy it's good to be back on here! I changed my e-mail address to a new one and I got locked out of posting or sending PMs for like 3 months with no explanation! Beware of changing your info here without the ability to check that old e-mail account! Anyway, I have been here reading your posts for that time, wishing I could chime in!

OK, down to business. Two reviews that won't help much of anyone this late in the game follow:

Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer- B+. Good action an d storyline, but Jessica Alba's Invisible Woman character was not near as cool in this one as the original. She's sooooo fine I wish she had gotten a better role in this one. I also don't like her as much as a blonde!

Shrek 3- C+. I agree with most reviews here and elsewhere that this movie was so-so at best. Nowhere near the witt and fun of Shrek 1 or 2. I'll be curious to see it they spend $150 Million making a fourth one.

Drool 'Harry Potter' Flies with the 'Phoenix'

The Harry Potter series once again exerted its box office might with its fifth entry, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Though the picture had by far the smallest opening weekend of the franchise, due to its Wednesday debut burning off demand, it handily conjured the best five-day start.

With the third-widest release on record, 4,285 theaters, and playing on over 9,000 screens, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix summoned $77.1 million over the weekend. Since Wednesday, it has grossed $139.7 million, charting as the sixth highest-grossing five-day start of all time. The next closest of the series was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire at $119.7 million. Order of the Phoenix's total also included $7.3 million from 91 IMAX locations, the largest five-day debut for the format.

This was the first Harry Potter to start on a Wednesday and its $44.2 million opening day was the biggest Wednesday ever, topping Spider-Man 2 and ranking fifth overall. It's also the first Potter to open in July. The first, second and fourth movies were November releases, while the series' lowest grosser, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, debuted in early June.
