Hmm recent films I enjoyed:

Fever Pitch - 3 (For all baseball lovers)
Sideways - 4 (For the midlife crisis)
Code 46 -3 (If you liked Gattaca)
Cypher - 4 (AUS release only, thrilling scifi with Lucy Liu)
Mr. 3000 - 2 (Neat for baseball fan, but lacking in depth)
Spanglish - 3 (Decent story about average family, beautiful actress)
Before Sunset - 3 (Good for an intellectual date, maybe a bit forced)

Ebert & Reoper for week of April 17, 2005:

House of D
2 :

Down & Derby

palindrome (highly recommended for dicussion, but not necessarily a good movie!)

Re-review: Amityville Horror
One thumb up, one down
Also receives the new "Wagging Finger of Shame" for not releasing an early cut to reviewers.

Enron: the Smartest Guys in the Room

Highly recommended to learn about how this scam shamelessly and without remorse ripped off so many innocent people

Interpreter

* Meet the Faulkers
* House of Flying Daggers

Also coming out on video:
* Love Song for Bobby Long
* Birds

Good reviews, but I vote for breaking them into individual threads. Especially when a multi-review spans 7 pages, it can be a chore to read about a movie you may want to see.

For myself speaking they are not useful to me.... i rather see the persons own thoughts of the movie and their own review....
I can look up reviews if i want to see them..... it just makes more things to look thur find the movies.....

Only my input......

Your input is appreciated (and so far wins because it's the only response!)

A Lot Like Love

1 hour & 47 minutes....Comedy, Drama and Romance PG 13

Oliver (Ashton Kutcher) and Emily (Amanda Peet)

How two people meet in a airport, a flight from Los Angeles to New York.... and know they are not meant for each other...(totally wrong for each other)
Seems like some people can fall in love at first sight, and others take forever to find out if they are the right match....
A romantic comedy about destiny, connection and the frequently fuzzy line
between chance friendship and happily ever after....

They just seem to keep bumping into each other throughout the years...
I loved the ending.... but you have to see it to know what happened....LOLOL

I would give this movie a B+

I also saw some of my friends there......
I enjoyed it, and laughed.....

Peachie--
You were there and didn't look for me? (Oh well. Meet us a the beach next time.)

I came in thinking it was a total chick flick and had low expectations.
The story line was full of holes, but somehow it didn't matter and the laughs were enough to keep it going. I kept wondering when it would get bad and boring, but it never did.

Not an excellent movie, but worth going to at least a matinee. I give it a B.

Thumbs up I Third That Motion

I was also there Monday. Thanks for the tickets Peachie! Dogopoly, I wish I had known you were coming... Next time!

I agree with both of you. I didn't really know what to expect, but did enjoy the film. I brought my mom along, and she wasn't too keen on the nudity and sex scenes, but she liked the story. Amanda Peet is a doll and made the film worth watching by herself. Ashton Kutcher also did a good job (much better than in Guess Who). This was not really a chick flick and would be a good date movie.

I'm giving it an A-. I'll probably check it out again on DVD when it comes out. On the Ebert & Roper thing, I would probably say drop it. If you include what they thought in your review of a film, that may be better. --BDogg

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Just got back...

This is a definite A...it kept the audience laughing all the way through, lots of great graphics, interesting characters, followed the book reasonably well, lots of cool gadgets, lots of things to entertain.

The story is about a man, Arthur Dent, who is swept away by a friend just before the planet Earth is destroyed to make way for an Interglactic bypass. Through a series of improbable events they meet up with the leader of the Galaxy who had inadvertently signed the orders to have Earth removed. Together they seek to find the master computer that will tell them the meaning of love, the universe and everything.

I'm probably going to go again when it officially opens.

The only reason it's not an A+ is because the storyline is like the book and throws nonsense at you all over (which was kinda the point) It's a totally fun movie but don't look for any deep meaning of continuity of the plot.

Worth seeing alone, with a love interest, or with a group of friends.

P.S. When you see it, carefully listen to the words of the happy opening song!

I fully agree. Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy was a brilliant comedic adventure that would definatly be worth the $10 to go see.

Ebert and Roeper better give this movie two thumbs up.

Are you giving HHG a C or Kings Ransom the C?

HHG was definitely a different kind of movie.

House of D

I rate this movie:
worth full price

I wasn't sure about this. I loved David D. in X-Files but now he's directing. I started watching and wow! This movie is cool! It was funny at times and sad at times. Robin Williams was great in his supporting role. The woman inside the House of D was good too.

I havent Seen XXX2 yet..and from the Previews just don't care too.. First they are starting off with a Weak Storyline .. Calling it XXX.. or.. the "Next XXX" since the reason Vin Diesal was XXX was for the Tattoo.. but what Do I know.. (Ice Cube is a "Great" actor).. maybe he can pull it off.. err.. wait no .. prolly not.. :-D

Beware of Sarcasm inside of the ( )

Sorry, Peachie...I thought I had mentioned it where you saw it but I guess not. I'll make sure to PM you on the next one.

And yes, I'd say it's probably a guy movie, although GG and Panache both liked it so it does have some "broad"er appeal, too.

And BTW---your rating is as fair as ours. Like you said, it's all about opinion.

And normally I don't think it's fair to rate a movie if you walk out, but I don't think the feel of the movie changed from beginning to end so I doubt it would have changed your mind to stay longer. ...some movies have that interesting ending that pulls it all together for you and could change your mind; this didn't really have that so if you don't like that first 20 minutes, you probably won't like the rest (and vise-versa.)
