"The Four Agreements" by don Miguel Ruiz

Has anyone read this book or any other by this man? I just attended a book interpretation/reading of "The Four Agreements" and I found it very intriguing, and thought provoking.

In a nutshell here are the four agreements that the author says we should make with ourselves if we want to attain true freedom, happiness and love:

1. Be Impeccable With Your Word
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

2. Don’t Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

3. Don’t Make Assumptions
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4. Always Do Your Best
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.

This type of wisdom is called "Toltec Teachings", and one thing that really caught my attention is the author says that when people speak out against us or say hurtful things to us that they are trying to get us to take on their emotional poison. They are only speaking to us this way because of their own wounds, and we shouldn't eat their garbage.

don Miguel has written The Four Agreements, a New York Times best seller, published by Amber-Allen in November 1997, The Mastery of Love, published by Amber-Allen in May 1999, and The Four Agreements Companion Book, published by Amber-Allen in October 2000.

If anyone has read any of his books i'd like to know what you thought of it/them.

That's some pretty wise advice, especially #2.

Wow, if we could all follow those 4 rules here in the forums, well, I guess it wouldn't be NEARLY as interesting as it is today!

it is wise advice, and i wish i could be strong enough to keep all four of those agreements with myself. it's something to strive for.

another thing he said is that truly good people have other people flocking around them, because without giving it a thought, we are are attracted to good people.
