T.O. compares himself to...Jesus?

'They threw stones at him and tried to kill him,' holdout says

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens wants a new contract, one year after signing for seven years and $49 million.

It seems as if Terrell Owens never ceases to amaze the sporting world as much off the field as on. The latest controversy concerning the Philadelphia Eagles holdout wide receiver? Comparing himself to Jesus Christ.

Owens, who wants a renegotiation of his seven-year, $49 million deal, which he signed last year, was asked about his contract conflict with the Eagles and told the Miami Herald, "I don't have to worry about what people think of me, whether they hate me or not. People hated on Jesus. They threw stones at him and tried to kill him, so how can I complain or worry about what people think?

"How can you justify hating me after I worked so hard rehabilitating from a broken leg to get back to the Super Bowl to help our team try to win? Really, you've got to look at who the villain really is in this thing."

As of now, it's unsure if Owens will be playing for the Eagles this fall. Some rampant speculation also was that Owens and Philly quarterback Donovan McNabb didn't speak to each other at the ESPY's last week.

McNabb and Owens last season lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl, where they lost to the New England Patriots.

The guy is super talented, but it's difficult to like or appreciate someone with such an inflated ego...

He was not comparing himself to Jesus. He was citing Jesus's example as his inspiration for shrugging off the "stones."

Not that I agree with his holdout, but only someone who wants to be outraged should be outraged by his statement.

His situation is similar to Jesus, but instead of rocks they are throwing wads of cash at him. Another difference is that he ASKED them to throw those wads, and now wants them to throw more. So yeah, it's just like Jesus.

Also, while Terrel suffered through an injury to play in the Super Bowl, Jesus sacrificed his life to absolve you of your sin. So kinda the same.

I think that the NFL should pull an NBA (in this one aspect only) and make standards on how much contracts can be paid. I think it should be a relatively low figure but incentive laden. That way, players are rewarded on their performance and their are no holdouts and teams can protect their investments.

Bull, the contracts are already weighted in the team's advantage to an unfair degree. NFL contracts aren't guaranteed, meaning that if a team decides it doesn't want to pay a player they can just tear it up and release him. Yet its expected that the player must remain bound to the terms of the contract. On top of this, there is already a salary cap, so you're suggestion has already been implemented pretty much. What more do you want? Indentured servitude?

100% agreed.

He'll be a Raider soon I bet. Al Davis likes troublemakers and he'll pay whatever it takes. Moss + Owens on the same team...wow that'd be incredible (although Oakland still needs a really good RB in order to keep their receivers from being stuck in double coverage).

John McClane: Thanks a lot, Jesus.
Zeus Carver: Why the hell do you keep calling me Jesus? Do I look Puerto Rican to you?
John McClane: That guy back there, he called you Jesus.
Zeus Carver: No, he didn't, he said "Hey, Zeus." My name is Zeus.
John McClane: Zeus?
Zeus Carver: Yeah, Zeus. You know, Mount Olympus, father of Apollo, don't f*** with me or I'll shove a lightning bolt up your @ss, Zeus! You got a problem with that?
