Matt Clement takes a line drive in the noggin'

Damn

He may very well never pitch again. He could even suffer permanent damage.

And Trot nixon hurt himself too. Not looking good at all for the Sox.

(Well, at least its still not past the trading deadline.)

ick, I'm a Yankee fan and therefore not a big fan of the Sox but it always sucks to see any player suffer an injury like this. Inexplicably this series has not been on NESN up here in the Boston area so I have been unable to watch them play - but it sounds like Clement might be done for a bit.

What I worry about the most is the fact that if he indeed comes back, there will be that lingering fear of getting hit by a line drive again - Mike Mussina's hit a couple years ago comes to mind - and that will probably inhibit his otherwise stellar pitching.

It's uplifting to read that he was conscious and responding as he was carted off the field - if he was unresponsive I would be seriously concerned. It looks like the Sox may push even harder to win that AJ Burnett sweepstakes between now and Sunday.

I hate to see good players taken away by injuries like this. I hope he gets better and is able to come back to the mound quickly.

Just got an update from non-HD NESN (which apparently had the game on, my mistake), and Clement is in good spirits and his CAT scans came back negative. That's good news although the mental component still may remain a factor.

That was a crazy shot...the ball flew clear into left field.

Clement is a great pitcher. Many people criticize the Cubs for trading away D-train, but they always neglect to mention that they got Clement in return for that deal who really pitched well alongside Prior, Wood, and Zambrano.

I hope he makes a quick recovery.

When Clement pitched for the Padres it was clear he had better than average stuff. He just would always have a bad inning and the teams he played for never scored enough runs in order to get him more than a .500 record. I am glad to see that he is making great strides playing for the BoSox, and so I hope that he can recover from this injury. The best thing is at least it didn't hit him in the face.
