Cincinnati Reds comfort 6-year-old when grandfather had a heart attack in stands
http://www.boston.com/sports/basebal...-+Red+Sox+News
Cincinnati Reds players rallied around a 6-year-old boy after his grandfather collapsed in the stands this week. "We just tried to make a bad situation a little better," outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. told the Cincinnati Enquirer. While paramedics were working on the grandfather, a security officer took the boy to the Reds' bullpen. The Reds did not release the name of the grandfather, who died Wednesday night of an apparent heart attack. The boy, identified as Antonio Perez, sat with players for the last two innings of the game, and Griffey went and got him when the game ended. The boy participated in the Reds' high-fives celebrating their 8-5 victory over Atlanta, and he then joined the players in the clubhouse. Clubhouse manager Rick Stowe said the Reds showered the boy with bats, wristbands and autographed baseballs. Shortstop Felipe Lopez gave him the batting helmet that he wore in this year's All-Star game. The players entertained the boy until his parents arrived. "We play a game," Griffey told the Enquirer. "What he was going through doesn't compare. It was important that the little guy not be by himself." ------------ With all the crap surrounding baseball recently, this showed a lot of heart and stuff. Kudos to the Reds for being class acts for this little boy.

that's sad, but nice to hear about the compassion the players had for the boy.
it reminded me of once in church when i was sitting about 10 pews behind my grandparents. all of a sudden i saw my gramp's head go back, and i immediately thought, "he's dead." there always seems to be a paramedic/doctor/nurse in the crowd who rushes to the aid of those in need, and they did, so i just stayed put. anyways this guy sitting beside me, whom i really didn't know, saw what was going on and knew the guy was my grampa and he moved closer to me and put his arm around me to comfort me as i thought i was witnessing the death of my grandfather. his compassion really comforted me, and the best part was my grandpa just had a sudden drop in blood pressure and was ok. (holy long story batman )

That was a very touching story. Thank you for sharing. It just proves that not all baseball players are as bad as the press makes them out to be. The compassion shown to that little boy was tremendous, and I applaud the Reds!

What a great story, just what I needed to lift my spirits today!
On a different subject, do you personally find that when you are feeling down, someone randomly does something, or something happens that totally makes you feel better? It seems to be happening a lot to me lately. The other day was a disaster, I kept making mistakes, I had to evict someone, my kids were on a tear, and I just couldn't get a grip. I went to Wendy's to pick up a salad for lunch, and the guy in the car in front of me had paid for my lunch. Tonight, I was sad that my ex introduced the kids to his girlfriend, and I log on and read this story. Makes me wonder if someone is watching out for me. Anyway, does this happen to anyone else?

Wow! The guy paid for your lunch? That's awesome.
I'll have to try and remember to do that for someone sometime. ![]() And yeah, that happens sometimes for me, too. That's why I always try and go out of my way to do something nice for someone, cause who knows what kind of day they are having! ![]() |
