I thought the Chargers overachieved a bit last year, but they should be OK. As long as they have LT they're gonna be dangerous. The WR position would concern me a bit if I was a fan, though...

I don't like the Merriman pick, either. Guy is talented but appears to be an @hole.

What's the deal with Rivers? I know Brees had a hell of a year last season, but don't you want to see what your first round QB can do? I thought the guy was great at NC State and think he'll be a good pro QB.

BTW, big loss in Week 1 baby! Bwwahahahahahahahaaa!

I think rivers is going to be a back up because Drew breese did so well last year. I dont think they wanted to but him in right away because he was still learning. My friend went to training camp and he said they looked good this year. They are playing some tuff teams and also monday night and sunday night football. If they look good this year, there might be a better chance of that new stadium!!
Wow preseason already starts this week, im so excited!

I'm also a big Raiders fan, but I have a lot of respect for the AFC west. It is a very tough division - the Lightning Bolts included

I will be making my journey to Mecca (Oakland/Alameda Colliseum) probably 2 times this year.

You gotta love Charger fans. They've stuck by their team when San Diego majorly sucked. Last year's performance gave us hope that this year we could see the Chargers make it to the playoffs. We shall see.

Just caught a bit of it, but in the segments I saw, Phillip Rivers looked great.

Bolts fans have a couple good QBs under contract.

Hindsight is 20/20 but if the mgmt would have any idea that Brees would be so great last year, the Rivers deal would not have happened.

Oh well, I could think of worse situations to be in.

Running an NFL offense is so different from college- it takes several years to learn what you need to do. Even Payton Manning struggled for a while. Rivers will get a chance to observe and learn the system before he has to take the helm. Unless Brees gets hurt. I am a Denver fan, but they were never the same after John Elway retired so I cheer for the local boys now- Go Bolts!

The Chargers looked okay tonight, but they certainly need to get a new kicker. Missed field goals are not going to get the Chargers far.

NOt sure but the rain could maybe have something to do with the missed field goals. the green bad did make a 53 yard field goal. Nate did great last year, but he blew it at the playoffs.

I wouldn't worry about your kicker, guys.

I watched him win the Groza at the University of Iowa in 2002 and make a run for it in 2003.

This kid has a tremendous leg and showed fantastic accuracy throughout college. His leg strength has obviously remained in tact but he's had some problems adjusting to the skinnier ball with his accuracy. He'll come around in due time.

The chargers should have ran it the last 2 plays why throw it up and risk a interception why did they not call a time out either

They have one of the best running backs in the league and they throw the ball 4 downs. Piss poor play calling. Reminesent of last years playoff loss to the Jets. Whoever is calling the plays on offense needs to go.

I was actually impressed with the Charger offense today! The defense was weak. I really thought that the Chargers would have a better showing defensively. Hopefully, they will improve.

The Chargers blew a game they should have won. I wonder if Quentin Jammer picks up his paycheck wearing a ski mask, because he is robbing the Chargers. They should have run the ball there at the end that's for sure.

WOOT!!!! I feel better, even though the Chargers ruined my first NFL game by having their third stringer beat my Niners' Third stringers, the Cowboys beat the bolts!! I listened to all these Charger Fans say that the Cowboys were going to be push overs..... Well guess not huh.

True Jammer and some other CHargers f'ed up and gave the Cowboys the game...... but that doesn't matter.... what matters is my Niners are 1-0 baby!!!!!

On a less fanboy note.... wow... Both the late games (Charger v Cowboys and Niners v Rams) were excellent. Both came down to the wire. Football rules!

Dallas was killing them with the pass. If not for mistakes by the Cowboys on their first two posessions, it could have been worse. First drive- fumble, leading to Charger TD. Second drive, five consecutive penalties leaving them inside the one yardline where they punted for 50 yards. Sounds like Denver wasn't very good today either in their game agains Miami. I'm a long time Denver fan (even before John Elway) and they haven't been the same since #7 retired. Chargers can still pull it together though. I cheer them too since San Diego is now my home. Nobody has won a game in the AFC West yet.

While I was at the game I overheard SD fans talking about their Teams (Padres and Chargers). They didn't sound like "real" fans. They were saying how they have two teams because well SD Teams suck. I was like WTF?!?! Even though my Niners sucked ass last year I still wore my jerseys, I still hoped that they would win each game. I never turned my back on them (one of my fellow Niner Fans became a Colt's... what's up with that?)

I use to like another team... but now I find that with Fantasy Football I like players more than other teams.

The Niners are my team. But I like LT, I like Dat Nguyen, Peppers, McNabb, the Barber Twins, Big Ben, etc. I'll buy their jerseys. But my team will always be the Niners... bottomline.

A Charger fan would say that.... and if that was called against my Niner's I would say that too....

However.... his hand/arm did bat Bledsoe upside the head.... most likely not on purpose, but he blatted him pretty good. There are rules out there to protect a QB. There are also tough rules to protect kickers. If it was Brees I am sure you'd be cheering the call. It was the right call to protect a QB... any head shots will draw a flag.
