Star Gate SG1 Question
I was watching an episode of Star Gate SG1 and I have a question for fans. Why do they bother carrying machine guns? I mean after a dozen episodes fighting the G'Ould(sp?) how come they don't keep their energy staves? It's better than what they have and they use them anyways when they get the oppurtunity. They can't recharge them I guess.

But I agree... if I were out on a mission with SG-1, I'd want to have my own Zat (the gun that looks like a snake). The first shot stuns... the second one kills/vaporizes. ![]()

They explained this in one of the episodes. The Staff weapons are weapons designed to terrorize people. They are big, noisy and flashy and not too accurate. They are also big and cumbersome. The machine guns are smaller and lighter. They are more acurate than a staff and have much more range than a Zat. They also have the advantage of sights to target the enemy and the people using them have trained with them for years.

Ok I was just wondering since I see SG-1 just have great one hit kills with the staves and the phaser like thing but hit or miss with the machine guns. I don't watch the series on a regular basis so a continuos storyline or theme is beyond me...something about Asgardians. I just watch the usual one story self contained episodes like Star Trek: The Next Generation but don't get the running plot like the Borg or the Q equivalent.
I admit though everytime Stargate the movie comes on I watch it even though I've seen it several times already. Same goes for Star Trek: Wrath of Kahn. |

The new season of SG1 sucks, IMHO. They gotta get rid of those two new people.

But if you are dead... why would the 3rd shot even matter? ![]() Quote:
The new folks are doing ok... they are just "rejects" from other Sci-Fi shows that didn't really make it *cough* Farscape *cough*. I did notice that they brought "Romy" from Andromeda as the new doctor. (She's hawt... ) |

In the last episode, where they're being held at gunpoint by one of the weird-looking aliens and the new guy (forget his name) starts small talk by saying, "So who do you like in the NFL this year? Kinda pegged you as a Raiders fan...", that had me rolling (and I'm a Raiders fan). Give them a little time to get into their characters - I think they will do well. There's a lot of storyline stuff going on too, though I think the new Aurii threat is a little strange. I'm interested to see if they get the other ascended ancients moving off thier ascended asses to have a 'battle of the ascended ones'.

. Overall, I think the show was much better when its structure was more "Monster of the Week" and the ongoing plot themes were more background, or just source material for the next self-contained show. Now its almost like a serial, and frankly not as good. Personally, I think the show "jumped the shark" when the producers let Ti'ilk grow hair. ![]() Last edited by zenbooty : 08-10-2005 at 02:06 PM. |

You also have to realize that SG1 isn't that serious anymore. If you want to watch a serious scifi, watch Battlestar Galactica or even Stargate Atlantis.
Btw is anyone surprised that SG1 has lasted almost 9 years? I started watching last season (since the episodes show before Battlestar) and I'm amazed at its longevity. |

I have watched it since the begining and I am surprised that it is still around. I think season 7 is the only season I didn't watch.

I was only surprised back in the day when it migrated from Showtime to being on regular TV... More or less, the show always had alot of potential, however with a bigger budget they really were "going places" ![]() (Especially when they got out of the planets with only trees and caves... to save on production costs. ) |
